Hey
I want to open up super sweep and check carbon brushes and change fan from grey lexan to White amodel fan. Is this frowned upon changing from original or is it like putting aftermarket flowmaster or borla exhaust on a 69 ss Chevelle. I believe it makes vacuum better. If it had a metal fan it would be different but Lexan fans are not great. Just wanted to opinions. Les |

I haven't read or heard of data supporting that they outflow the Lexan (Amodel) nor do I believe when others have stated that you 'must change from the grey to the white' ASAP. I asked my Kirby technician of 25 years and he said if it didn't need it ( ie was all damaged or cracked), just use it till there is a need for it.

I love borla exhaust. I do not have a 69 ss Chevelle. I had an opportunity to buy a 69 ss 396 super rare version but I didn't have enough to buy it.
I put borla exhaust on our v6 260 how awd rav,4 which does 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. It sounds beautiful. There is no cold air or even regular intakes made to fit it. I put an arm cold air intake that was suppose to fit. The tubing was 3 inches and a tube that was 2.5 for piping. It had to be 2.75 inches. It threw mass air flow sensor code. I had to put all of air box hose etc back on. Let's say I can only put k@n air filter on and borla exhaust. Borla exhaust sounds alot better than flowmaster. So I like borla mufflers there sweet. I don't know about a fan change yet. I felt inspired to do so now I'm not. Thanks for opinions. If I do change I'll let you know but not today. The end Les |

Les, It's always a good idea to replace a Lexan fan with a white Amodel fan as soon as possible.
The Lexan fans develop cracks with age even if not used for long periods of time. A small invisible hairline crack can cause the fan to shatter into pieces while the motor is running. This could easily cause serous damage to the fancase and motor. I have heard of this happening on at least three separate occasions to fellow members of this forum in the past.
So do yourself a favor and change that fan to an Amodel fan ASAP.

I dissaesembled the Lincoln. I must say holy cow the screws must have been torqued on tight. My legend 2 was similar. I had a screw almost strip but I found my freaking awesome Milwaukee needle nose locking pliers. I replaced screw as I have spare. I cleaned out everything. The carbon brushes are larger ones used on 16 inch nozzle motors I'm not sure if they start on Omega or classic 3. Just the bigger carbon brush. The bearing plate was similar to D80. The electrical has like metal bracket box added on. I think it's grounding wire on plug. Carbon brush was red and orange wires. The power plug was d80 but extra brackets for ground. It wasn't too difficult to take apart. The brush roll plate it has to small screws on front of plate.
The brush roll I cleaned up. There wasn't much but I cleaned it up. Belt not too difficult I just used a screw driver. I have it up and running. The amodel fan seems to run quieter. I can't say it made a world of a difference but grey fan had a couple of hairline cracks. I wish brushroll was similar to newer brush rolls. It is high quality very well built vacuum. Inside nozzle was 5 24 84. But it's the new fan is on. Tune up is complete. Les |
