The vacuum cleaner in the movie, Rosemary's Baby,...when they open the closet door at the end of the hallway.....

Does anyone know what this machine is? Looks like it can be a Westinghouse or a GE?

Speaking of which, someone just told me that in the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, there's an Electrolux XXX that one of the Chipmunks gets sucked up into. He said it had a clear hose so you could see him go "fwoooping" by!

Hey Guys! I recently saw the remake of The Amityville Horror, and towards the start of the movie, you get a quick glimpse of a Hoover Constellation, I belive it's a model 82, sitting on a hardwood floor with the hose, wand, and floor brush attached. Also, CRL, if you look at the scene in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase up in the attic, there's an E-lux XXX laying between the rafters. Later, Trg

Sorry, Lou, I haven't seen that movie in 30 years. It scared me so much as a child I haven't been eager to watch it again!

Since everyone is relating vacuum sightings in movies, here is one I saw this week while watching the second Scooby Doo movie with Freddie Prinz, Jr. and Michelle Gellar-
When the crime-fighting team returns to their old childhood headquarters to come up with a plan to save Coolsville, the camera pans across the shack and under a workbench there is what appears to be a Hoover Constellation model 82, but it looks a very pale two tone green, instead of gray and dark blue. I thought "Huh, I wonder if that's a Canadian machine?" Sure enough in the credits it lists Vancouver as the filming location. Is there such a vac up in the north woods?

John

CRL

There is most definitely an Electrolux Model XXX in Alvin and the Chipmunks. It is a very late XXX or a Metropolitan rebuild as the skin over the top of the machine is blue.

Burnt Offerings

I like the Kirby (early 500 series) you see Linda Black vacuuming the stairs with in the movie "Burnt Offerings." Looks like brand new.

also in national lampoons Christmas vacation you can see and upright in the attic when we walks around. You have to really look to catch it. I think it might be like an F&G Eureka. You can only the the handle. And in that Jim Carry movie where he doesn't know he in killer (not sure what it's called) you can see a late plastic Convertible in the basement.

The best vacuum moments at the movies

kirbyvertibles's profile picture
I think the best vacuum scenes are as followed

Mr. Mom where the man has the vacuum called Jaws vacuuming by itself. What is that thing?

The little Borrowers where he gets out that old Kirby and the little people get sucked to the floor boards.

The mouse and the Motorcycle where Ralph the mouse get's sucked up by an old (I think) Electrolux.

The first wives club when Goldie Hawn blows up the Hoover Elite.
And who could forget the brave little toaster. What a classic.

Last but not least and my favorite, Mrs Doubtfire and the dancing scene when he dances with the Hoover Elite to Aerosmith music.
Phillip

Uncle Buck,

Munching on junk food and using a Hoover Innovation/Turbomasters hose to suck up the spillage on his clothes.

Also attempted to bugger up the washing machine LOL

Shaun of the Dead - In the basement was a Hotpoint 95 series "Next generation" washing machine just tucked behind a Pink Hoover 652 Senior.

and not really a film but heres a classic music moment,

Hoover 119 and Freddie

The Abbott & Costello movie where Lou gets a job selling vacuum cleaners and the plot revolves around corruption in the sales orgnization. Probably my all-time favorite vacuum cleaner movie!
And does anyone remember "Bus Riley's Back In Town"? I think it came out in the mid-60's and if I remember right it starred Michael Parks (who later starred in "Then Came Bronson" on TV) and Ann-Margaret. Bus Riley returns to his hometown to restart his life after either being in prison or the service, and one of the first jobs he has after going home is selling vacuum cleaners that were called the "Atomic Way" and looked like a Kenmore Torpedo Tank or Kenkart.

How about this? If you look close at a scene with the late Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams in Brokeback Mountain, there's a Regina Electricbroom leaning against the wall of the apartment. Personally, I think a nice blue 66 Air-Way or an Electrolux LX would have been better. Trg

The vacuum in "The Borrowers" was a Royal not a kirby. There's also one a little later on where he has the borrowers under the bin. Also, it's a senior in Shaun Of The Dead not a junior.

Remember the movie with Drew Barrymore called Poison Ivy when the maid uses an old coffee can Hoover to clean up coffee grounds from the kitchen floor. You can tell that she never really turned on that Hoover, it sounded like a shop vac in the back ground.

In the Ryan Oneal,Barbara Stisand movie "The Main Event", from 1976-77, she is cleaning their appartment with a Red Kirby Classic 3 that dosent even have a cord! She is also singing while she is 'vacuuming', so maybe thats why.

I remember a Lucy Show episode (the later version, from the late 60s,-early 70s with "Mr Mooney") where Lucy is selling vacuums door to door. The vacuum is a Hoover Portable suitcase type. Lucy goes schlepping all over the neighborhood with the vacuum case wide open, hose, cord and attachments all falling out all over.
There's an early eposide of I Love Lucy where she tries selling vacuums door to door. (i think its a Westinghouse vacuum)When she comes home with the vacuum in tow, she says "Youve just witnessed the death of another salesman!"

In the movie Blondie Takes a Vacation I believe a Hoover was used. There is something wrong with the bag and Dagwood uses a tire inner tube for the bag which becomes quite large and the vacuum floats up to the ceiling if I remember correctly.

In one of the Blondie movies, a Hoover 150 plays a big part. A hotel super is using the vacuum in the lobby and it quits working. Dagwood and a friend become so intrigued with the vac they sneak it to their room and attempt to service the machine. Is this the same movie you are talking about, clothbag?

I think it look like....

It looks like a suction polisher thing. It really doesn't look like a vacuum. the front of the machine seems rounded, instead of a straight across nozzle.

I'm stumped. If I was to guess a vacuum tho It would probably be a Universal. They always had a weird looking upright vacuum.

Yes, Cole,

I was just thinking of posting something about those jetpack Electroluxes from "Tomorrowland" - thanks for doing it. They were in two or three scenes in the movie, and the Electrolux name is prominently displayed. It looked like they did something to the logo to make it larger and chunkier. The design is just slightly different than the original.

It was fun to see those.

1963 Kenmore vacuum.

mjm0424's profile picture
I can't believe the resemblance to mine! Right down to the small dent in the attachment plate,& the crooked bumper. The bag on both mine,& the movie one were replaced with a brown shake out one. I have the original bag,it's light beige,& uses disposable bags.We had one when I was growing up. Mother had an even older Kenmore 116 upright,& wanted a new one for downstairs so she wouldn't have to lug it up & down the stairs. My dad came home with the 1963 one,he got it used from a friend he knew at the Beverly Country club. This was in 1966.I remember seeing the Kenmore for the first time when he opened the trunk of our 1962 Mercury meteor, after we visited my grandmother in the hospital. He showed it to mother, she said it was filthy,& had to be cleaned up before it came into the house. Shortly after that I had a bad case of tonsiltis.Mother asked,me what I would like.I was 6 years old. I told her I wanted the new vacuum next to my bed. It sat there till I got better! Here is the old one,on the end. It runs GREAT.My mom bought it in 1947 for my grandmother ,for mother's day
