I know that several of you purchased Aerus Lux Guardian Platinum's when they were first released several years back. I recall you having favorable opinions of this particular model. I'm just curious if you still enjoy this machine or if the appeal faded over time?

I believe the reason you would buy this is mostly nostalgic. It's a very sexy looking machine and reminiscent of the old days.
the other reason I could see for buying this is living far away from a city and needing that extra come to me service that Aerus offers.

That being said, I think there are plenty of other good canister vacuums in the $600-$1500 that are more modern lighter more maneuverable and better in just about every way.

In using mine--the only disadvantage is the long body-is hard to turn around in tight places.

I still love mine

I put it into rotation quite often, and am always happy with my results. This machine is so quiet and powerful. As far as maneuverability it is no worse than other Electrolux, or long body machines.

I would not buy one because

I realize I am probably in the minority here, but I would not get one of these because the hose end and electric connection is very nonstandard. I think there is an adapter that will convert the hose end, but I could not connect all of my other power nozzles to it, I'm the type who likes to use different attachments with mhy different vacuums. If that is not something you do, I have used one and they are very quiet and powerful and seem to clean really well, although you could probably get a canister that cleans just as well for a cheaper price. Or, better yet, for the price you would pay for a Guardian Platinum, get a central vacuum power unit and a central vacuum attachment kit and use it free standing, that will be even more powerful.

We have two. One for each level of our home. We use them daily because 1 we have a German Shepherd and two we are clean nuts. Like all our past lux products it’s a great machine that will last forever and you still can’t beat their service when needed

Yes, Mike i agree

The attachments are non standard, and the wands are clunky. It is still, an Xcellent vacuum. Did I mention whisper quiet. The power nozzle makes more noise than the vacuum itself.

The only thing I would like to see is the speed control put on the hose handle like on the older models.I enjoy my Platinum anyway and have central vacuums I use too.

I still use mine in rotation. Still like it. Mine was one of the very first ones made, with the power nozzle that has a silver top.

They didn’t keep this power nozzle around for long.

Tom

Why did they change the power nozzle so early in the run? Other than the silver, where mine is all black, and the air vents on top are different, what are other differences?

Another question, has anyone ever figured out what scents you can use in the event chamber? I heard some scents will damage the plastic. Can you use the scent tablets ok without any problems?

N0oxy: My Platinum did come with an adaptor-use the Volt Nozzle more than the stock one!It goes into the handle end of the hose.

I have an early model as well. My bag light will come on when you need to change the bag, but it does

not shut off automatically. I understand they fixed this a little later on in production, so that it would

shut off the motor and light the bag change indicator.

I only used mine a few times and put it away, I will have to get it out and use it again.

The early power nozzle on the Guardian Platinum was very loud. Almost a 'scream'. They changed the motor gear on the next version (current) to quiet it down considerably. My nozzle is even louder due to the green bristle brush roll I run in mine.

Thank you for your answer

Was there something in the wiring of the first PN that allowed it to be turned on without the main unit running?

One thing I noticed on my machine, don't know if a defect, or a design. It will allow the machine to run with bag door open, and the door will shut with no bag in place; where the motor will turn on. All the Luxs I have ever been around had this safety feature where the motor won't turn on without a bag as a motor protection.

I noticed on youtube there was a Lux dealer that had the machine stuck to the wall, so his machine would run with the door open too.

I am always very careful about making sure a bag is in place, but knowing this could happen worries me. Though I don't loan this machine, what if someone uses it after I'm dead?

I've had mine for about 6 months now. There are things I like and things I don't

Pros.
It's airflow and suction are the highest of any canister i've measured so far.
It's super quiet
Mini electric power nozzle
Stylish design

Cons:
Short wands (for a guy my height at least)
Weak powernozzle (IMO)
Small bags
High running cost due to double hepa
Body not as maneuverable compared to other high end canisters

It's overall a nice machine but, honestly it's one i don't often reach for. I really wish I could put a different power nozzle and wand on it, as I feel with it's specs it's holding it back from doing so much better.

other power nozzles

There is an adapter to convert the hose end to a standard 1.25 diameter but the electrical connector on the hose is really unique and I know of no way to convert that to a plug type that is used on most other electric hoses, so I could not connect my Centec, Sebo, Lindhaus or Wessel-werk power nozzles to it. On the other hand, the Aerus hoses for the Aerus classic and other plastic canisters work with these power nozzles beautifully. The hose for the metal canisters such as the 1205 and super J also work great with these power nozzles.

I know, it's included with the vacuum to use the upholstery/dusting brush combo tool.

I've had mine for 5 years. For the most part I like it although I have never liked the bulky wands and hose handle. The hose handle is slightly smaller though than on the 6500 and 9000 that I had. When I visited the vac museum Tom gave me a brush roll with stiffer bristles - it made the world of difference to the effectiveness of the power nozzle. Mine does not shut off either when the bag is full - only the light turns on. Also it will run with no bag in place. Although the bags are small, they hold a lot of dirt and get packed solid before the light comes on.

Thoughts on the Platinum

Hi,

Some time ago I converted my Platinum over to the Euro wand, hose and attachments. Mine uses the Sebo ET-1 and I have both the Plastiflex faux braided hose and the one for the commercial canister that is about 10' long and almost identical to the Riccar Impeccable hose. I love the hose handles and telescopic wands of the Euro machine and the performance upgrade over the Aerus power nozzle is significant. The combo dusting, floor and Aerus crevice tool are better, although I like the automatic floor tool as it sits flat on the floor. I also like the Aerus urethane hose sans the Wal-Mart hose handle and wands they are so proud of all these years. The SwissAroma scents work well in the scent chamber. I filled 3 bags to capacity after I quit using the Aerus power nozzle and switched to the Sebo. Will post some pics when I have time.

converting hose

How did you convert the hose end? It sounds like the conversion allows the hose to use other main stream power nozzles.
