I still think of my first big vacuum purchase.

I was around 13, living with my Mom in Allentown, PA.

Her old Dial a Matic had seen better days, and I was not a collector then, more of a kid who thought..."hmm, I can afford the gorgeous vacuum I want and say it's a gift to her, but really it was for me!  Not sure what happened to the DAM, I dare say in a sado-masochistic blasphemous admission, that we threw it in the dumpster!  I'm ashamed!

It was a brand new Celebrity IV Elite in brown with a chrome lid.  So gorgeous.. I even remember the way it smelled when it was new.  I think it was around $200.00 more or less, but I did get the side eye from her for spending that much!

Anyway, came across this ad today and thought of me fellow VLers.  Maybe one of you will want this one.  No sure if it'll go as the lowest bid or go sky high.

I'm not collecting Hoovers, although I do have three, but none original Hoover before Maytag... My oldest now is a Z400.

It is tempting, because it looks in such great condition, and was built like a tank, so it probably still has a lot of good performance left.

I'm really running out of any storage or display space, and I know the circular pre-motor filters are virtually impossible to get anymore, which would mean I wouldn't use it for fear of ruining the motor, so that would be a bummer.

Anyway, it looked gorgeous to me and I thought you'd like to see it as well!

Fancy That!

Great story! I'm a Lehigh Valley native and live in Bethlehem! Not only that, Celebrities are hands down my favorite vacs!

Since you are from Allentown...did this happen to take place at Hess's, by chance?

Bambergers

Hi Robbie!

The original three anchor stores at the Lehigh Valley Mall were Wanamakers, JC Penney  and Bambergers which was a part of Macy's,  I think.  Bamberger's had a great appliance department!  So I got it there.  This was only a few years after that Mall opened.   Imagine!

I'll never forget carrying it out to the car!

The salesman didn't know how to react to my young self, but had no problem selling it to me!

Sounds about right to me!

My dad worked in a mens' store called May's for three months in 1986. They were located right outside of Bambergers in the Lehigh Valley Mall. Thank you for sharing!!!
