So I bought my first Miele, actually, I got the U1 Jazz in a package deal with a C1 Titan canister for $60! So I cleaned up good and used it a few times, surprised ....
It’s quieter than my Kirbys, it’s versatile...so easy to go from carpets to hardwood with a flick of the switch (off) of the brushroll and dial turned to ‘smooth’, the twist feature is interesting ...not real sure on its ultimate benefit though , filters well, bags cost more online than Kirby bags, and the onboard tools makes quick jobs easy.
Criticisms: the dust brush is weak...way too short of bristles, it definitely...is more of a ‘workout’ and that was the biggest surprise by far! It feels like 60% of the weight is in the handle/upright part...& that weight creates ‘work’...into your forearm/wrist/shoulder I’d say. It’s easily....more work than all my olderKirbys...the pre Generation models w/o tech drive that so many people think are so heavy to use. This weighs 1.5 lbs more than the older models and 1.5ish lbs less than the Generation Kirbys.
- I like it to a point, would be fine if I was just an average coknsumer and didn’t care about deep cleaning .... but not so much after reading on this forum, the airflow tests revealing it as only average at best at the power nozzle.

But, I got a heck of a deal and you can’t beat it down much for the $ I paid.
I need to purchase a latch that was gone when I bought it....you can see it missing ( should be grey at the top of the hard front bag cover top area . Anyone know where I might buy one besides at a Miele dealer? Also, any ideas on how to polish the front light cover to remove the cloudiness on the plastic( clear part)??

PS: The C1 Titan 300 canister was surprisingly quiet !!!! I liked it for dusting ... a lot, but gave my mother the option to take either of the Miele’s and she chose the C1. My friend who runs a vacuum shop rebuked me for even offering her the U1( and it’s weight)! Ha. Made even more sense after I used it

Glad you're enjoying that! Having a good modern vacuum for daily use is a lifesaver!
the dusting brush is intended for you to buy a bigger one Miele makes a few different ones. I think you'll find in time that this actually out cleans our Kirby.

I haven't tried the U1 but I love their canisters. I used to have the Powerhouse upright that was manufactured by Panasonic, it wasn't bad but it definitely was a Panasonic machine.

I also am disappointed in the dusting brushes that Miele offers. Vacuumdevil, which dusting brush do you recommend from them? My local Miele dealer claimed that they only offer those teeny tiny nylon and horsehair brushes.

Nice! I got the exact same model off that auction website about a half year ago. It was in mint condition, but a bit more than $60! I was just using it this morning before I shampooed a rug. While it definitely has weight 2 things I really like are the 360° front wheels so I find it super maneuverable, and I also think the rear carry handle is perfectly designed and placed for ergonomics and balance and I find it easy to get up and down stairs vs. most any other upright I have had, despite its weight. I got this before owning a dog, but in the meantime my spouse got a dog and I find it great at picking up short dog hair. Between this and my C3 with literally every electric and non-electric option and accessory I'm well armed to keep the house clean and dust free. Those quiet motors are awesome. Our dog loves to accompany the vacuum when it is being used, but does hate getting blinded by the headlight. A box of bags lasts a year for me... between my 2 Mieles the 2 boxes actually last 2 years... so like $25 a year for bag filters is nothing in the big scheme of things. Now the ~$30+ each per annual HEPA filter thrown in and I guess things start to add up. But for me it is worth it. Since I got my C3 nearly 2 years ago my allergies have greatly diminished. My house does not have any real thick carpet so I don't find the U1 strenuous to maneuver at all, but I guess I see it could be possible with thick carpet. In summary, I'm a fan of the U1. I pretty much leave it on its highest suction setting at all times. I still am not sure why when the roller is turned on the motor drops speed one notch off its highest setting. I saw some theories about that but cannot remember now.

@Tseg There was a small run where the switches were out of spec from the supplier that supplied Miele. When these were under warranty, we were replacing the handles and that remedy the problem.

I would recommend a new handle assembly if the motor slows down when you engage the brush motor.

Vacuumdevil,

So are you saying a new handle assembly will have the motor staying at full speed even with the roller running? I found a newer $50 handle assembly where the roller switch toggles left/right vs. up/down. Is that what I am needing?

@Tseg I said make sure the handle is made newer then April 2018. You can expect to pay about $110 🇩🇪 for the handle switch and cord assembly.
If you go to a dealer you can also try it on the vacuum before you buy it.

"@Tseg I said make sure the handle is made newer then April 2018."

Thanks for the clarification. My first step was to send Miele corporate a note asking them to correct their known supplier/design deficiency in my vacuum now that they have the correction in market. In my opinion it is a warranty issue... like a recall item, but not a safety hazard. We'll see how they respond. If not to my satisfaction I'll have to step up my investigative powers to locate the Miele CEO email address to send him/her a note. That usually gets action. I had an issue with a high end Sony camera that was not getting resolved through their customer service for over a month. I found the CEO email address and within 24 hours they were overnighting me a brand new $3K camera and threw in a nice camera case for my troubles. In the corporation I work for disgruntled customers sometimes send notes to our CEO with dissatisfaction. Within 12 hours the issue makes it back to the front lines and within 24 hours we ensure the customer's satisfaction, no matter the issue. Basically "Just make it go away ASAP, no matter the cost." We'll see where this goes. Since Miele is very reputable I suspect I'll end up satisfied.

@Tseg you get no warranty when you buy something second hand . Do not harass the CEO of a company because you bought something broken.
also I've seen all kinds of people get upset at Miele over the years and I can assure you they don't care about machines out of warranty.
Be a big boy and bring your broken vacuum to a dealer and have them fix it.

Thanks. Miele has responded and has asked me to send them a photo of the handle. Interesting the info plate calls out 10.7A in vacuum mode. I'm guessing the new ones don't do that?

Our older model demo does not do this however the newer unit does.

I assumed that it was to force the user into the "correct" suction setting for carpet.

It is possible that this is (now) "normal"

just my .02 ~

Two thumbs up for Miele corporate customer service. They mailed me the new handle with the 2 horizontal button at no charge. However as relhall surmised, dropping motor speed with the rotor running actually is the new design feature as my vacuum continues to do this with the brand new, new style handle. So while my vacuum is not performing any better than before, Miele's responsiveness has gained them a life-long fan-boy.

Rivstg1, apologies for commandeering your thread and hope you are still enjoying your U1.

Hiya. No worries, glad you some satisfaction . I've used my U1 a few more times, I like. The relative quietness, it's much more convenient using its attachments and switching from carpets to hard flooring, of course, than my Kirbys. I'm glad I have one in my collection, oh, I did find a latch for the front cover so it's performing as it should with ease. 🤓

Not Very Nice....

vacuumdevil, you need to get those trust issues looked at some time.

… anyway, I enjoy the 2 horizontal button setup much more.

@Tseg Glad that you purchased one from Miele. That invoice clearly shows it was not warranty. Glad it fixed your problem.
