My cousin is emptying out his family home (estate sale soon). He asked me if I wanted anything before it breaks up.
Last night, I picked up boxes of my great aunt's hand-painted china, and..... a Hoover Constellation (gold), AND....................a Convertible 1076..... the VERY FIRST 1076 I ever saw. It's the one that MADE me hunt for my own. I was 12. It started it all! It's in rough shape now. But, I'll give it the proper treatment. I remember my aunt "Mamie" running this. I remember when it was brand new! I cleaned that house numerous times, using it as well.
My aunt (died in 1981, 10 days after my father), taught for Singer. She had a Singer upright, (didn't last too long). My uncle came home w/ the Convertible in '73. I know it's odd, but,I'm glad to have this piece of family history.

I don't think it's odd at all....

I think it's wonderful you now own the very machine that your aunt had that fueled your passion for Hoovers all those years ago. I get sentimental over the Hoover Convertible 1010 that my grandparents had when I was a child. I could never be sure of where theres wound up, but I'm proud to say I have one just like it in my collection. They had that and a G.E. AVC-815 canister which my grandfather used to vacuum his car out with. Sadly, that one wound up out at the curb :-(

Family owned vacuums are always the most valuable, especially that old. I still have my grandmother's Olympia Lux. It's still got a few dents in it and a bent caster wheel from when I was little and I would take the hose off and scoot around the carpet with it like a pedal car. haha

It got neglected due to the Power Nozzle mysteriously breaking repeatedly and never working right, even the vacuum shop we took it to said they couldn't figure it out, but that's been 16 yr. ago now. I tried looking at it in 2013 but I didn't know how vacuums worked at that time so I guess it's still broke.

I have a few of the "family vacuums".

Amazing how abuse fell upon them. BUT, also amazing that they STILL perform.
I remember this Constellation as a CHILD...1960s
I'll breathe life back into them. I turned on the Convertible. The brushroll is frozen. I removed the belt, turned it on. It runs very well. IT HAS NOT BEEN TURNED ON IN 6 YEARS!... in a musty house.
Spa treatments await.

I agree.
Having family vacuums does make them more special.
Like Hershel said: especially the very one that got you started!
I wish I had some of the ones that my family had when I was a boy, but they were all either given to other family members or friends, or traded in on whatever new machine replaced them.
Definitely looking forward to pictures!

Barry

And, Barry,
Please give your address, etc again so I can FINALLY mail that wand to you. Do you still need a green power nozzle?
Sorry I've been so late. Lots happening here.
This afternoon, my niece had a baby boy! 1st child. She's in med school. A co0usin's son's wife had a baby 2 days ago.
It's a crazy baby factory in the family.

I'll message you.
I'm thinking someone else must have been looking for a power nozzle.
I was interested in the wand, a "brown" upholstery nozzle for the Portable, and I was hoping to see pictures of the Celebrity/Celebrities that you had available.
Congratulations to the family members on their "baby boom"!

Barry
