I am considering on getting a Kirby. I would like one of the Generation series with Tech Drive. I prefer the looks of the G5 and newer. I also do not want one with Tech Drive that makes that horrible noise when pushed forward and back which seems to be a common issue on older generations.

I'd say

From a performance standpoint a Late Sentria (new emptor) or newer.

@Mieles5380leo

Hello,

Even though my Vacuum Cleaner collection is several hundred vacuums, I only own one Kirbym, the Sentria 2, but I really Love it! It’s Tech Drive is very quiet and I personally bought mine because I love the color scheme. I am so tired fo Grey and Black vacuums and this one is a nice taupe or tan color with bright turquoise accents.

That said, if you don’t “need” to have the latest Avalir 2.. the Sentria 2 is also going to be priced low, so you will also save money. I don’t think any Kirby would be a mistake, but I do know the things you mention, the Sentria 2 has the Tech Drive that is pleasant sounding.

Best of luck and please let us know what you choose and post pics. Kirby vacuums are an investment as they are built so strong and durable. I owned a Generation 3 and it was actually my very first Kirby and I loved it. Yes, it was the first Tech Drive but I thought that “sound” was really cool and it actually was one of the things I liked. It was a gift from a friend who had bought it brand new 5 years prior, but they knew I was a vacuum collector. But they lived in a three level home and wanted something lighter weight, so they gifted me the Kirby Generation 3. I would have kept it but a few years ago I had a friend who really wanted a Kirby, so I gave it to him and he still uses it ever day and loves it. After giving my Gen 3 away, I kinda missed having a Kirby so that’s when I looked around (Like you are now) and tried to find the Model I would Like best. At the time I bought my Sentria 2.. the newest Kirby was the Black and Red Color Avalir and I don’t like Red at all, so I went by Color mainly. I know, silly way to choose, but I don’t regret it and Love my Sentria 2!

Anyhow, I really enjoy using my Sentria 2 and I think you would love it too. Best of luck finding your favorite Kirby!

Patrick

A couple of years ago there was a Sentria 2 for sale on ebay that had been used at a school library. It was priced low but I decided that it was too dubious for me. I will consider the Sentria 2. I have never used a Kirby and would like a chance to try one but there is no way for me to try one without buying it first. I will not be getting a new one I know that. I only spent money like that on my Simplicity Synergy and Miele S5 Leo that I know I will have for a while.

There's not much difference after the G7 . I think the Sentria 2 looks the best personally.

I don't feel like there's a whole lot of difference from the G5 forward. just subtle refinements and different color schemes. Find one in good condition for a reasonable price and you can't go wrong.

My personal favorite is the G4 because I like the looks of it the best and I've had history with them before. It's a shame that they don't make the same colored parts for them anymore or any model that is older than the G6 with the exception of the Heritage II.

I think the best Generation series is the G7D Diamond Edition. I like the delicate switch that I can use on rugs and I liked that they put on a better exhaust duct.

I never liked any of the Sentrias, they just look hideous to me. Plus I also don't like the handles on both of them and I could care less about the LED headlights. But at least those went back to those straight zippers which I honestly prefer better than the curved zippers.

I really do like the looks of the Avalirs, the red one takes me back to the Heritage II which is my most favorite Kirby of all time and the blue one takes me back to the G4 which again, it's my favorite Kirby Generation series or basically my 2nd favorite Kirby of all time.
