Well, after my two visits to UW Madison, Hospital in September and October, it has been determined that my CIS (carcinoma in situ) high-grade bladder cancer has returned and I am no longer responding to the BCG treatments.
On Monday, November 12, I will be admitted to UW Madison to have a Radical cystectomy performed by Urologist, Dr. Kyle Richards. I have three options for bladder replacement; and, I’m not thrilled with any of them. I do not have to make a decision until a few days before the surgery. The urologist has told me that this is a very serious surgery, 4 to 8 hours on the table. Yikes!

“And now you know the rest of the story.”

On a lighter note, I am going to attend with a couple of my colleagues from Marquette Elementary, to see Miss Petula Clark, 85 years young, performing at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois on Sunday, November 11.
The first song that I ever played well on the piano, around the age of 13, was “Downtown.”

I pray for a successful surgery and a relatively painfree recovery. You are in my thoughts Ken. We've known each other for probably two decades or more. You've always been a kind, honest, and compassionate human being. I wish you the best possible outcome.

and, how can you NOT love "Pet Clarke"?

Hopefully, now, w/ your bladder removed, all the trouble will go with it.
(easy to say, right)?
But, you're strong, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Ken, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. It was such a pleasure meeting you this past summer. I knew the minute I met you that you were a treasured soul and very kind person. I can't amagine how you are feeling right now. Try and find 3 things you are thankful for each day. They can be small and they are there. I am keeping you in my prayers and looking forward to seeing you at the convention this year in Kansas City.

Take care freind and here if you need anything.

Happy Thanksgiving - update from Ken Wagman

westinghouseman's profile picture
Pathology back from my surgery and it was a favorable report. Dr. Richards said it was imperative that the surgery be done. There was quite a bit of the CIS Bladder cancer (Carcinoma in situ) throughout which is always high grade. All the lymph nodes, margins were negative. I have been told that I am cancer free, no additional treatment required!

I have much to be Thankful for this Thanksgiving; my life has been restored. I thank you ALL for your continued prayers and good thoughts, vibes, throughout this two plus year journey, and ask that you continue to pray for my complete recovery!

Ken Wagman
