I found this last night at the curb. From my limited research, it seems to be from the late 1920's. I'd appreciate any leads to it's age. The unit currently doesn't work. The carbon brush seems to be non existent. The beater bar is missing as well. The bag(Graybar Quality) is in good shape. Top slide sleeve seems to be stuck to the fabric.
Appreciate any information or leads.
Thanks
Ron

Graybar

The above vac is one of the private label Royals. I think I have seen a reference to the Graybar name first being used in 1926(formerly Western Electric???).

The cord going from the handle to the motor seems to be very old. I'd say it's in the 1920s. By that cord alone, I'd wager it's pre-1930. You could go to google patents and look up the patent numbers listed on the base of the handle, the latest patent will provide a starting year.

Also the presence of phillips head screws indicates 1937+, but their absence doesn't indicate anything.

That was a nice find! Judging by the fact that this Royal has a revolving brush, I'd say it was manufactured in the 1930's. This one should clean up nicely.

Mid to late 1930's, or could even be later, as it looks similar to my Royal model 153, pictured here. Should polish up nicely with some Mother's Mag. The carbon brushes should be available online or at a Royal dealer, and the brushroll as well. Good luck,
Jeff

i got a royal similar model im restoring. Pa Geier was royal before it was royal in late 40 early 50's. I don't have pics but i believe mine to be a bit older. The wheel stance is the same. Mine is a straight suction model. IT has a wood almost like synthetic but its real wood behind nozzle with agitation brush. It was either nailed or riveted to nozzle. If i had to guess tac nail.
I also have 2 vacs circa 1932. I only know its 1932 because the fan has a stamp on the back of it with 32 date code. The royal vacuum i got from another member on here. I am half way through the restoration. It has original bag which is like potato sack material. I have it kept away with my 505 bag as they are old and priceless. The bag looks like it was painted on with house paint. i got electrical handle off. The handle has a lot of rust. Im going to have to strip off paint to get to rust and repaint it. The wiring other than wire switch is in working order. The bottom back that holds the single wheel was bent. I bent it back. It didn't have original wheels but u have wheels off a parts royal vacuum for it. i have pics but my electronics the last few months dont like me. I drowned my phone and it was over 1000 so i haven't upgraded since then. I had a tablet that just cracked it screen and getting it fixed is more than its worth. I have pics uploaded to my google drive. Im on my desktop which i never used to use.
if you do a search in the past 6 months you can find pics of the vacuum i received from the gentleman in Pennsylvania.
