Dennis,
I got your e-mail about this machine. Yes, the arrow on the brush roll assembly (which, for a machine from 1982 as you pointed out to me from the S/N on your cleaner, would be P/N 2059721000) does tell you how it should be installed: it has to line up with the arrow on the rug plate.
