I found a Euro Miele S5210 at Goodwill and immediately started renovating it. I was in the middle of a renovation of a GE boxy vacuum I had found a week or so before.

The Miele renovation involved replacing the motor with a 120 from a 240 euro one. Could not try it at the Goodwill for obvious reasons as it had a Euro plug.

Replaced the cord on the cord reel, clever or lucky, and that worked. Now waiting for a combo connector, board/motor speed controller and power switch.

It is black/Silver and in pretty good cosmetic shape. Have hose but no wand or floor tool, but I already love this vacuum.

This is the only brand I am inclined to restore without worrying about cost. Sad but true. I did get a decent deal on the motor as well as the speed control...well I mean the control has not arrived yet.

Pricey machines, pricey parts but well made.

You should have got a power conversion transformer and plugged it into that, would have been cheaper and no work at all compared to changing all the parts and everything inside it. You would have kept it original and been able to use it just as it was, and being one of the few collectors in the USA with a true European Miele.

Update and response...

Hey Guys, nothing has been done yet with the vacuum as the board has not arrived.

In response to keeping it Euro, would have been a nice idea, but never thought of ordering the Transformer. Oh, and because the original motor smelled like it burned out. No actual proof, just a guess. The smell caused me to scrub the bag chamber and spray vinegar elsewhere.

I will consider the other route, next time.

Awh yes...

The suction control was stuck on Max and would no longer function.

I would not be surprised if its previous owner tried to use it on 120v using only a socket adapter and ruined its electrical components.
