There is no tension on the spring because all of it is on the small winged spool. As soon as you wind up a fair part of the spring on the bigger spool, you will grdually get some tension. |

The spring must be clockwise on one spool and counterclocwise on the other, that's the way tension builds up. I took an Elux winder apart last year, it looks like it works the same way as yours. I'll send photos if I'm able to find some. |
