I can assume they sold Hoovers. This would lure a customer in to look at furniture, rather just an in-home sweeper demo.

That's what I'm thinking too. Have people come in to look at furniture, and also casually mention the new Hoovers they have in stock. It's not a bad setup for the time really.

A furniture store would also sell rugs--

--and could then show the proper care of them.Notice the demo table that brings the Hoover to eye level of customer to see the Beating,Sweeping and Cleaning.
