Well, sort of. Just received this Ebay purchase yesterday afternoon (Picture #1.). This morning I decided to unpack the box.

Immediately I found the cord was tough to come out....felt sluggish and basically was stuck.

Of course I decided to take it apart. Using leather gloves because I remembered the talk about coiled springs.

Well it was obvious I am not a trained Elux. repairman because a couple of things happened. First, a metal part slipped out of one of the slits in the cover. That is the second picture (anyone recognize it?). Never did figure out where it goes. I suspect it does not belong.

Second, I was greeted by a cascade of 70 ball bearings. I now know you have to open it spool down and pull up....at least to keep 35 of them in place...oh and keep it steady.

Found all but one bearing. Wire brushed the groove they sit in and lubricated it.

5 tries later, I finally got it assembled. I had issues of bearing popping out of their groove and twice the spring disengaged from the cord spool. Last try had me winding up the spool the correct tension because, it works great.

Attached it to the vacuum after removing the cord halo. Replaced the plug and held my breath when I plugged it in. Works great. Even with a good hose, seems the suction is not as strong.

Does anyone recognize the part?

Thanks.

Missing information....

The Vacuum is a Model L and the Cord Reel is a Model 2.

Doesn't look like a spring (how springy is it?) probably just a retainer of some sort. Good work actually getting it all together!

The part,

is rigid hard metal, probably steel. I forgot to add that this cord reel looked a bit like it had gotten water inside at some point. There was corrosion in places and some of the ball bearings had surface rust on them.

thanks.
