So recently I purchased a rare Dirt Devil jade green hand vac (model 08510). The 2.6 amp version (identified by a round belt plug similar to the 103) I think is more rare than the 3 amp version, but this one seems strange since there are elements of both versions that are on it. Starting on the inside, we have the motor. This is a 2.6 amp motor with the felt ring which tells me this is a bit of an earlier Dirt Devil model. Also inside this cleaner has an upgrade from the standard 2.6 amp version since now the connection between the switch and one of the motor wires (and maybe a cord wire too, but I’d have to open it up again since I don’t remember) still involves a separate wire, but now it is a more direct connection since there is a wire cap instead of a small box. On the outside, the bag is green with “Plus” written in a rectangle. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the later hand vac models have outer bags that just said “Dirt Devil” instead of “Dirt devil Plus”? Finally, we have the square belt plug on the outside found on the 3 amp model. The manufacturer’s sticker does not list a serial number, which makes the date and age of this hard to trace. The motor did say 1995 (I forget the month and day) but this could’ve been made somewhere between 1995, and maybe before the later 08510 was released I think in ‘96 or ‘97. So now with this info in mind, I’m clueless as to what this Dirt Devil really is. Is this a prototype for the later 08510? Was this a model sold exclusively in a certain store or through a certain catalog? Is it possible this is a 3 amp model but is mislabeled? Any and all thoughts are welcome!
