Hey everybody, so earlier today I was able to catch the delivery truck on time to get my package so I can show y’all my new vintage vacuum to my collection! Mostly I’ve been getting uprights, this time is a canister vacuum! And I find these pretty interesting and I’ve been wanting one of these for a while, now I finally got one! Feast your eyes on this one!

Is it supposed to be a vacuum or a suitcase or both?

Pretty much yes! This here is a Hoover Slimline model 2017 canister vacuum. I got this on eBay for $39 as my best offer plus a $21 shipping, when I saw this I noticed there was like 1 watcher or 2 watching this vacuum so I couldn’t pass it up at all it looks so nice and in great looking condition! This one I believe is supposed to be a slim version of the Hoover Portable ( which I love to get my hands on soon) and probably in a little cheap price too back then. Not sure what year this model was made in but maybe one of you probably knows but I’m guessing around late 60’s or early 70’s.

It even came with the original hose. Plus a multi purpose upholstery brush but I already got one so maybe I can sell it to someone that wants one.

Here’s the inside of the bag compartment, nice and clean looking, it also has a tool caddy for the upholstery brush and crevice tool. I even found out it uses the same motor as the Dial a Matic does too!

Small green Hoover collection! I think this was sold along with the Dial a Matic 1149. All I need is a Convertible 1020 or 1030 or what the heck? How bout both?! I love this photo!

I love the color of that Slimline!
And it does look great with your DAM!
I'm pretty sure I looked at that Slimline a couple of times on eBay.
Glad you got it!

I have a sort of turquoisey Portable, and might be getting a Dial-a-Matic in that same color.
I wish old vacuums weren't so much fun.
I don't have any more room!

Barry

Thanks Barry! Old vacuums should be fun because they’re a piece of history

This vacuum came out at the end of 1972. First newspaper ad I could find was December 3, 1972. Clovis News-Journal from Clovis, New Mexico · Page 45.

www.newspapers.com/newspa...

It cost $23.88 back then, which would be equal to $142.24 today. Quite a chunk of change!

Pretty cool huskyvacs! $23.88 sounds very cheap today but it was expensive back in ‘72. Sounds kinda silly though.

That tear looks like it's just on the outer sheathing of the hose, which would not be unusual being 40+ year old rubber. You might be able to cut a little bit of Flex Seal tape and stick it in there, or some kind of glue made for flexible applications. Maybe shoe glue perhaps?
