If, as your subject line suggests, it's an Electrolux XX, chances are it has a woven hose, which are known to deteriorate and leak over time. Check the suction at the end of the hose and compare it to the suction directly from the machine. A simple hand over the opening will do. If there's a noticeable difference in suction, the hose is the culprit.
