I had been looking on eBay for a nice vintage Electrolux Model G to add to my collection, and found one and then lost it due to a "sign-in" glitch while last minute bidding... and I've been devastated for a few days.
It really was a gorgeous example at a medium price. Would have been over $150.00 including shipping, but came with lots of original attachments including a Model XXX wall brush with long straw colored bristles.. so very cool!
While searching in vain for a "immediate gratification" replacement, but not satisfied with the condition of any other vintage Electrolux offerings. I veered into looking at other models, and then somehow, was on Facebook and it recommended thier marketplace. Within minutes, I found by limited selection on their forum.. an early 2000s Aerus Lux Legacy (I don't see a serial number, or model number on it....no old metal info plates like on vintage Electrolux bottoms unfortunately) being offered for $75.00 as-is only 20 miles from me from a family owned not for profit Thrift store in Canyon Country, CA that gives proceeds to local schools, youth sports teams and other youth groups.
Really just for the fun of it....I went on a vacuum finding adventure. Just before sunset, as the traffic on a Sunday evening was light and the light bouncing off the hills made the landscape and mountains look absolutely gorgeous, I got in my car and drove 45 mins. to check it out. Once I saw how charming and carefully treated all of their items looked, I felt comfortable and I decided to buy it without plugging it in. I didn't want to subject the motor to more dirty air until I had a chance to change the full bag that was in there (yuck!) and post filter. They had said it worked and I believed them.
Got it home, took of the post motor filter which was filthy and dark, maybe never having been changed. Both the exhaust port area and the bag container area by the fan needed vacuuming and then a slightly damp papertowel to get some of the soot off the surface of those areas. The exterior was unmarred, including the control panel...so all in all, not too bad.
The hose end that enters the machine looks like some food and possibly other sticky junk had been vacuumed (maybe it was a restaurant's vacuum or something) so I definitely want to get that cleaned out thoroughly. Any thoughts on how to clean out an Aerus hose that is probably moderately caked with debris throughout it's entire length?
I popped a new Hepa bag in and after removing the post filter... I turned it on for the first time.
No strange sounds at all from the motor, more powerful suction than my HPR (probably a Super J), and is moderately quiet.
So, I think I ended up with a major bargain/find! One of my first real vacuum deals ever! And I actually loved helping support this wonderful couple's little Thrift store!
I already ordered filters from Amazon and an Aerus tool adapter so I can use any of my standard tools (of which there are many!). . I found and ordered OEM looking attachments from eBay (mine only came with the hose and powerhead) because the empty tool cradle over the exhaust port looks awful empty. I'll keep them docked for show... and for convenience when using the vacuum.
So stoked! I think it will be my go to vacuum once I get the hose cleaned out or order a new OEM looking one from eBay. CLICK HERE TO GO TO completenutt's LINK

I think you'll like it.
That's the same model my mom has, which she bought new. I, personally, have three Epic 6500s...essentially the same machine, but when they still wore the Electrolux name. There was just something about that model that hooked me! I have two that work; one upstairs, and one downstairs. And one curb find that needs a new motor. Best of luck with it...I hope you love it! Phillip, Jason and Barry, you guys are awesome. I know that you all know how it feels... and that's means a lot to me!
I called Aerus corporate in Virginia today and talked with a nice lady who had a wonderful southern twang! Told her about my two vintage vacs, and asked for the number to a local Aerus store. She gave me a few choices and I asked if she knew a good person to deal with... she mentioned Kathy in the Pasadena store. I told a Kathy about the yucky hose on my Legacy and she said there's no cleaning out an entire hose like that. A new one retail is almost $200... I can get one on line for half that, along with the other accessories and attachments... I will save money there....
But, I have the urge to preserve my two babies, and I really enjoyed chatting with her...soooo, even though it's also almost $200 each for a disassembly and deep cleaning (which she does herself), I've decided to get them serviced there, as she is way more familiar with reassembly, and, even though it's retail prices, I kinda wanna support her small business as a thanks for sticking with it and hanging in there all these years with Electrolux/Aerus! I love their machines and I can tell she really does as well.
Thanks again for the support and other good info!
BTW, I was checking out the aerusstore.com website and found a pre cut-to-fit type c pre-motor carbon filter that is placed directly against the fan intake before the bag. Looks good to me!
Lastly, it's true the Perfect brand type c are discontinued... I ordered them on Amazon recently and the vendor sent me the ones pictured below. I actually think they're great. I was told that it's an upgraded hepa filtration material used by this company, and it seems to be made well.

David, these Clean Obsessed bags claim 5 layers (same as ply, I guess) and are a clothlike material and not paper. They alone filter the air beautifully on the Super J, but in addition to the electrostatic exhaust filter on the Legacy make me a very happy camper!
Chris, thanks for the cleaning tips! I couldn't figure how to unclip that connector pin/latch release thing on the hose end by the handle where it swivels. I could just futz with the old one, even if I break it, just for practice. I decided to just order a new one I found at a reasonable price on eBay. It's generic look a like, but I will keep it away from messes that could stick to it's inner walls so it should last years. Besides, the original hose on this one is dirty on the outside and kinda stinky too, so I'm getting new just for more user enjoyment.
Mike, this connection to the wand and the power head seems dedicated to this model because of the coupling... so I'll get the identical style one just to be safe and just use the adapter for tools. I might get a sidekick someday as well!
Thanks again! Bill

That looks like a great replacement hose! It's nice that you like your Aerus lady, but $200.00 to take it apart/clean/reassemble sounds like a real gouging to me. I know things cost more on the west coast, but geez. |

You actually spoke with someone at the Aerus plant in Virginia? Bristol, Virginia? There has been a raging debate for years here whether it was still open or not. |

One of these days I'm going to drive down to the Bristol plant to see if it's actually open. I've heard so many rumors about whether it's open or not. I live in Virginia, it's a shame that it's five hours away from me in the complete opposite corner of the state.
A strong southern twang would be strange for most parts of Virginia, but Bristol is on the border of Tennessee so I'd believe it. |

"Five hours away"means it's 5 hours and 25 minutes from me and LOTS of vacs, parts & bags that you may need and I DO NOT. |
