Hey all,

Just looking to tap into your wealth of knowledge once again.

I may be looking to rescue a little PortaPower from an abusive situation.
I'm kind of kidding. They still have it, so I guess they haven't abused it too terribly.
It's just pretty rough cosmetically.
The info tag on the underside is completely worn off from being dragged around on the ground, so I can't see a model number.
It's white-ish, with blue stripes down the sides, if that tells you about how old it is.
The only extras with it are the cloth bag, hose, and crevice tool.

I started looking around on eBay, and I couldn't believe how much stuff is still out there for the PortaPower.
And, it appears that you can still buy a brand new one; now in black, and called "Commercial".

Are tools and attachments for the new one interchangeable with the old one?
I see exhaust filters, cloth bags, adapters to use paper bags, etc.

In the same basement, I also stumbled across an old Apex canister vacuum.
Brown with a white, sort of spatter design, and rounded chrome ends.
Missing its top handle.
It has a brown, cloth covered hose.
But I'll save that for another post.

For now, any info about the PortaPower would be much appreciated!

Barry

Hey John

I've seen the Swingette, and figured that the PortaPower was a newer version of it.

Do you know approximately how old the white with blue stripes PortaPower is?
And if the tools, filters, bags, accessories for the brand new version will fit the white/blue one?

I really want to try to convince this couple to let me sort of foster care for their few old vacuums that are just collecting dust (on the outside) in their basement and garage.
It pains me to see them just sitting around all dirty and neglected, never being used.

It's not a situation like Hans' basement, where they're displayed and loved on.
These are just sort of tossed aside and left for dead.

Yes, there are paper bags that can go in them as well as the cloth one. And, the tools all fit as well. I'm not sure , offhand, about those dates. I'm thinking '80s there ear ads that were posted in here about them which would give the correct age.
Some had wheels, some have a little "trolley" apparatus (I have one), that allowed you to pull it around with you, like a canister. Later, (now) they come in black as well as orange, called the "Power pac commercial". They used to share the same motor as the DAM, Portable, and Slimline.
A great little machine. There are great ads for them. You'll appreciate them a lot.
Try to rescue the "Little sucker". lol

I'm going to try.
In the meantime, I ordered the brand new Commercial version to tide me over.
It looks neat, and I think it's cool that they still make it, but it can't take the place of the vintage, Made In USA version.
Plus, I like "rescuing" things!

This will be my first NIB Hoover!
