So earlier today I went to Hooks vacuum shop and was going to buy Kirby micro magic bags for my G3 I polished and cleaned up until when I was waiting at the register I happen to saw a red orange Portapower with wheels! So I asked the cashier if it’s for sale and said yes so I looked at it and it’s actually a Oreck brand Portapower! Except it’s called the XL Power Pak. I only paid $10.81, a steal! I think this is a rare canister vacuum that Oreck rebranded. Funny, I was wanting a Portapower with wheels and a Oreck XL canister since I got my 1st XL upright couple weeks ago, instead I got 2 vacuums in 1!

Serial number, around the 80’s or 90’s?

Right now it has an envirocare bag but when it gets full I’ll get a shake out bag.

Score!

That's a great find and a helluva lot better than an Oreck Buster B! I have one but it's black, it was a gift from Kenny Loveland. If I were you, I would continue using the Envirocare cloth bags, I'm sure they do a better job of shielding the motor from dirt than the cloth one would.

I can tell ya right now....

judging by the hose and attachments, that is way too old to be from the 90s!

TheSpiritof76, actually the hose and attachments are from my Hoover tool set I had for a while, the vacuum came by itself with no tools.

I’m going to guess again but I’m assuming this was made around the mid-late 80’s?

KirbyClassicIII's Post# 211851 here states it came out in 1982: www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-...

They must be extremely rare because I cannot find any photos of one or any information outside of Vacuumland.

Gabriel,

Your Oreck Power Pak XL was made sometime prior to 1984. I would guess this one pre-dates the black version, which replaced this red version after 1984.

No conformation on that, but trying to find other pics of this vacuum in Google Images, I just kept running into the same photos from this thread. Couldn't find any videos on YouTube either. All I could find about it on Vacuumland was just mentions here and there in comments from various members here.

It's almost as if they knew Oreck and Hoover would both one day be owned by the same company, TTI. 😐
