I called local UPS and 18x18x48 at 25 lbs is 175 $ to Michigan If you know anyone makeing a drive from San Mateo Ca Bay Area I would be happy to meet them and drop off. Moving in two weeks and it's got to go to the curb. |

You're gonna mainly be billed for the height. Tall boxes have additional dimensional rates because they take up more room in the truck. I've bought a bunch of Kirbys from here in my home state and I only have to pay $15-$20 for shipping even though they weigh about 30 lbs.
I tested UPS and FedEx and got ~$120 and ~$140 respectively. USPS quotes $148. Those are all for Ground options, the cheapest listed and the slowest times (+/- 2 weeks arrival) Any way you look at it, San Mateo is as extremely west in this country as you can get, and hauling it clear to the midwest in the middle of Michigan is going to rack up the rates. If you can remove the handle and fold it flat into a smaller box, that would halve the rates, but they won't get much cheaper than what Electroluxxxx quoted. Donate the vacuum to goodwill or an antiques store if no-one claims it. Don't throw it on the curb for a scrapper to grab and get 50 cents for it. They stopped making these 60 years ago, each one thrown out is one less on the planet, and then the prices of them go up and up. That's how I had to pay $85 for a Hoover 700! Those are getting hard to find. |
