I don't know a lot about Hoovers (nor any upright vacuums either), so I may have put this thread in the wrong era, you'll tell me...

What year could that Hoover Conquest be? Was it a good model ? I found it in the basement of a charity association, with two Kenmore in the 80s and a more recent Hoover (purple color), all of them neglectly piled in a corner.

I'm pretty sure I could have it for 10$, but is it even worth that price ?

Very nice.

You’re making me a bit jealous! I’ve been after a Hoover Conquest for ages. The few I found were too beat and cost a fortune, a bad combination. Commercial vacuums in good shape tend to be hard to find. Not as many commercial machines as residential ones are sold. Those that do exist tend to get abused and discarded without a second chance at life.

The Conquest you have shared with us appears to be in good condition, which is remarkable. Since it has a cream colored hood, I can tell you it is one of the first ones. If you want to know the date of manufacture, the first four of the serial number is MMYY.

If you dont live too far from Quebec, I could buy it for you and meet you close to the border !!!

I didn't look carefully at it, nor did I plug it to check if it works, so I can't tell if it's good condition or not.

Was it made in the 70s or 80s ?

That is a very nice offer, but unfortunately I am about as far from the US-Canada border as you can get.

Thanks anyways!

Conquest

I have a newer one in great condition I am willing to part with if you are interested. It would involve shipping. Not sure if that is a deterrent?

I spent more on the brand new brush roll shell than I did on the entire machine!

Is that possible to still find parts to fix this specific model ? Because it would be surprising everything is still fine in there.

Assuming it is broken, I'd buy it whether or not you can get parts for it. Whose to say someone won't decide to clean up down there and throw that "old junk" in the tip? Then it can be safely in your care when you get the things you need.

I would imagine they use the vacuums to clean the business then shove them in the corner when something breaks. You can't always find 100% working machines every single time. Vacuum collecting can very much be similar to collecting real cars. Gotta fix some to enjoy them!

I'm not actually in a mood of vacuum collecting, this is the reason why I offered it to broomvac member, I'm more interested in knowing more about different types of vacuums and maybe buy a very good one for me that wouldn't be an Elux.

This said , even if this Hoover is in good condition and usable, I still can't see how one could dust furniture, window frames and sealings with stucco with it. So it is not the better model for me. I'd buy it to fix it and sell it to an Hoover fan, if parts are available.

At a point , I owned 6 Elux, I recently sold two of them and I'm planning to sell one more in near future. I don't think I'll keep more than two vacuums.

"can't see how one could dust furniture..."

The commercial 'Conquest' upright cleaners were designed to clean carpets only, e.g. hotels, shops, etc. They had no provision for above floor cleaning. To clean above floor, you would use a separate suction machine.

They clean carpets very well, and the 'Activator' brushroll reactivates flattened pile very effectively. There was a version which had two of the machines side-by-side, fitted with a pram handle. It gave a 28" cleaning path.

The Activator was also featured on UK domestic models (Turbopower, Turbomaster). The US had imported versions of these (Sovereign, Innovation). Some of the models had tools attached, similar to the US Hoover Elites.

That is pretty much what I thought, so if I ever buy it, it would be to clean it, fix it if needed and sell it to somebody who has lots of carpets.

yes parts available still. The very first models are the same as the newest models as far as parts go.
