Jimmy Descant is a brilliant artist and sculptor who forms objects d'art with "found objects" -- creating incredible, whimsical, beautiful mechanical sculptures. He has used many old vacuum cleaners in his art. You can see some of his work at www.deluxerocketships.com... and www.theconnells.com/deluxerockets....

Jimmy formerly lived in New Orleans but lost EVERYTHING in the Hurricane Katrina disaster. He literally left there with the clothes on his back. When he went back to inspect his property after the floodwaters receeded, he found that his home and shop had been completely submerged in water and everything was covered with horrific, smelly goop. So he and his girl friend just left the area and moved temporarily to Denver where he still is - living in a friend's home.

The reason I am telling you-all this is because Jimmy is a friend of mine. He is really having a hard time right now. He has a big show coming up that he desperately needs old vacuum cleaners and parts for. If you have anything along the lines of the old Kenmore Commanders that you'd be willing to send him, he will cover the shipping for you.

He also has some things on eBay, hoping to raise a little extra income. I am breaking my own "no posting eBay links" in this instance with a view toward trying to help him out. Among other things, he has one of the very rare genuine Electrolux after-market Model XXX bag converter chambers, to use standard paper bags with the XXX. I have only seen one or two of these the entire time I have been collecting. See link below. Even if you don't really need it, maybe you could place a bid on it to lift his spirits and do a small part to help support this artist in his hour of great need.

He also has some other things that would be good for collectors to pick up such as a large lot of XXX switches. If the switch on your XXX goes bad -- and, yes, it can -- wouldn't it be nice to have a spare on hand?

Anyway, if nothing else drop him a word of encouragement. He'd really appreciate it. His email address is Soul47@aol.com.

THANKS

Don't mean to be a pest here

but I am only trying to help my buddy out. He is really in a desperate way right now and could really use your help. Surely someone out there has a couple of cruddy old Kenmore Commander tanks or similar that are beyond hope for restoration but could be put to good use in an artistic project. Come on guys, let's show this brilliant artist (and very very nice guy) our support. Thanks!

Another thing he needs

is Electrolux Model XXX 'faces' ----- hopefully someone has a few old Lux front covers that they don't need. I do not have any, all that spare stuff got taken or thrown out at the last garage cleanup. I did send him two Kenmore Commanders and two Electrolux polisher attachments............
