That will be great to see at the convention.
Amazing how some people feel they have the 'exclusive rights' to someone.
Thanks for 'sharing with the class'.

'exclusive rights'???

I may be confused by this.Does the Tonight Show have exclusive rights to Stan as they allowed millions to see him?Does the Fox in St Louis where Stan played for years have ERs as they had a mini museum devoted to him?Does Charles have ERs as he knew him for years in CA as they shared music talent and vac knowledge?Does Tom who is now caretaker of Stans collection have ERs as he knew him for years after he returned to MO?Do those of us who visited with Stan in his home thanks to Tom have ERs?I helped Stan remove a bag from an antique Apex and sat in his Continental Mark II.I also had a lunch with him in which topics of conversation included the quantity and quality of food consumed by CA girls versus those in the mid west.Do we not all have 'exclusive rights' to our personal memories? And if we share them does it not benefit others who knew Stan or wished they had???
(Great book!I have thousands with my bookstore, personal collection and vacuum reference and have NEVER seen this.)

I've never seen that book, either.

And, that's just the point: None of us has exclusive rights. Certainly not about to get into a tizzy w/ anyone in here. I was making a point. I do believe, however, that The Tonight Show actually does have exclusive rights, as it were, to any film clips, footage, etc from their own show. Anyone who writes a book, also, along with the publisher, would have exclusive rights. For example, my own sister, ( a published author), has written two books. She DOES hold the exclusive rights to them. She and her publisher, had to be certain that all information in both books was accurate, correct, not false, etc, before said books went into production. And, all information, facts, references, etc, are correct. She lives in VA, and her publisher set up book signings/meet the author meetings in several cities. She even came back home here to host an even at a local bookstore. I have several copies of each. She actually signed a copy of each for me. They grace my bookcase to this day.If her information were false, untrue, etc, at all, she's have lost her credibility and would have been laughed out of town by those who'd know better. She certainly would have criticized by her peers in the literary world. They are books on business, real estate, etc.
Is that the focus to which you were referring?

WTF...

Did I miss something here? Did someone's feathers get ruffled? What is all this "exclusive rights" convo about?

What exclusive rights means to me is,,,, I think there's a lot more Stan Kann stuff out there that is not being republished. Like for example his 1979 t.v. show. Can't even find it on Youtube. Someone is keeping it under wraps. lol

Disney is famous for doing that; buying the rights for a show or moive and then 'locking it away in their vault'. I can think of two movies they've done that with off the top of my head.....so that there are only old VHS copies when you can find them...nothing digitally remasterd.

Among the items passed along to me by Mary Straus, owner of the Fox Theater, was boxes of Stan Kann's personal items. Included were his collection of the old VCCC's printed newsletters, many printed items on vacuums given to Stan by Charles L., his collection of instruction manuals and brochures, as well as VHS copies of many of his appearances on TV. My favorite was his 'filmed in Canada" TV show. He had one episode on VHS (the debut episode) with Dom DeLouise. He even had a copy of the Hoover movie "The Most Difficult Things" advertising the Hoover 541. He had several CD's of his music as well. They are all on display at the Vacuum Cleaner Museum in St. James, MO - as well as his vacuum collection, so the public can not only see his machines, but learn about the Man himself. And so he lives on.....

My favorite Stan Kann banter was on Mike Douglas's talk show. Stan had a 'weight reducing vacuum belt' attached to a Model B Rexair. He had asked a young Cher to demonstrate it while he turned the vacuum ON and then OFF after a minute:

"Can you feel anything happening down there?"

Cher to Stan: "I haven't felt anything down there in years".

What movies are those?

River Pirates for one. Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss was another for a long time, but finally was released on DVD.

River Pirates which is one of the more extraordinary coming of age type films ever made, is dead in the water for DVD.

There are more, but I can't think of them right now.
