I went to a second hand store today and saw this Royal, $25. Is it worth picking up?

Absolutely

As long as the motor runs and it has a brushroll, itís worth every penny. I had one of those and then sold it for $100. Belts are also easy to find as well as bags.

Karl,

What you just bought is a model 8801AE "Anniversary Edition" limited model, built in 1992 or 1993.

This has the 6 amp non-drop-in motor.

The replacement belt for this machine is part no. 1-672260-001, and replacement disposable bags are part no. 3-066247-001 (10 pack).

Karl,

Yes.

A "non-drop-in" motor, as used on every Royal metal upright before 1995, is assembled more or less like a Kirby motor, utilizing a separate field and armature. Whereas, a drop-in motor used on all Royals since 1995 are not only more simplified (armature and field are self-contained), but are also quite loud!

$25 is a great deal. They sell for 3-4 times that on eBay! I've been looking for one to add to my collection too, but since they are so heavy and well-desired, they are priced out of my budget.

I might stop by after work and see if it's still there and pick it up. Thanks for the help.

That Royal is an excellent cleaning machine. I am sure you will enjoy it.

With some work and elbow grease you ca get it looking like my 2008 Royal Everlast 8300 pictured here:
