Does anyone know which motor sizes are the uncommon/rare ones for the red Royal Dirt Devils? I seen 3 of them last month at Goodwill, and seen two more yesterday. I passed on them all, but I did photograph them and take photos of their model tags in the store. I should have got them, but I have one already here, and 3 more of other model series, but I just remembered someone on youtube comments mentioning that there was several different versions of the motors in them, kicking myself for passing on them all in case one of them was a rare one?

There were a few Royal 501s in the early 1980s that had 2.0 amp motors, but most were 1.8 amp. The ones with the 2.0 amp motor were all dated 1982.

I know the m08510 had 2 versions, the first one I think is more rare and has a 2.6 or 2.8 amp motor. That one is identified by the round belt plug. Then I think the later one was 3 amps, and that’s the version with the square belt plug. Then there’s the 12 volt CarVac which I think has either an 8 or 9 amp Johnson motor, unlike the other handvacs which use motors made by G S Electric, but it’s 12v DC so I think 1 amp on 12v DC is smaller than 1 amp on 120v AC. I forget the motor size as it’s been a while since I last saw it (another story), but I have no doubt that it is indeed a rare motor size. Then there’s the Dirt Devil Commercial all metal upright, which has a 10 amp motor I think, maybe 8 or 9. That one is definitely rare for Dirt Devil but common for Royal.

Okay the ones I saw were Model 103 2.0 and Model 08100 3.0 amp models, I have not seen any in the ".5" ranges yet.
