Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

Your car alarm is a security alarm system that you probably already have. It will go off when set off from almost everywhere inside your home.

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to break in your house, press the panic button for your car. After a few seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there. Most likely, the intruder won't stick around.

(Also remember to carry your keys in your hand while walking in a parking lot so you won't have to fumble for them when you get to your car.)

I just put a hook on my bedside table for my keys. Now if I can only remember to hang them there instead of by the front door where I've been hanging them for years -- and will remember where they are when I go to the door looking for them! Ah, the joys of early senility.

I leave my keys in my pants pocket at night. That way I don't have to look for them when I get up in the morning.

If I hear someone breaking in

The funeral home is getting ready to have some business, because there is a 38 special Smith and Wesson Detective special close at hand and I'm a pretty good shot,,,and I am NOT aiming to injure or scare!

Wouldn't work for me as both my cars are classic so don't have alarms!! It is a good idea though. Thankfully I live in a very low crime area but you can never be too careful.

I agree Hans! As a friend of mine from South Africa says, you shoot to kill.

OMG people. You forget we`re talking about human lives? Here law says if you¨re threatens in your life and the other person has a similar weapon then you can shoot as self defense, otherwise you go to jail for killing. I know if you have an intruder inside your home you should have the right to defense, but not killing. Except life and health what is worth in your possessions (material possessions) the life of a human been?. Unfortunately I had the bad experience of finding a young man into my house and I knew he had stolen several things, like golden rings, etc. Not a fortune, but my mothers ¨jewels. I met him face to face and I thought while he was walking before me facing his back to me, I take a knife and I plunge it in his back. And immediately thought, it¨s a young man. Still has plenty of years to live. Who am I to decide if he lives or die, for a small bunch of jewels. So let him go. I don¨t regret it. That¨s MHO. No offense please.

Not to offend or even try to argue what way to go here! My brother is retired chief of police, mom was Always packing! he always said if there was an intruder, be sure to get off the first shot, and make sure you drug him into the house to prove the intrusion. Never sure if that was a joke or not. He is 6'5", at 5'11" I am the runt, mom even was tall.

Hi. Of course it's not to argue, but keep in mind that in Uruguay many laws must be different. Self defense is one of them. Just that.9

If an intruder is LEAVING your place-you CANNOT shoot him or stab him in the back. Now if he is COMING TO YOU then you can shoot or use your knife.the law about dragging can be contested--DON'T do it!!!If you have to shoot-do not disturb the scene in ANY way.It will be sorted out.However-in North Carolina you can shoot thru the door if the perp is trying to break thru the door.If noting else that may frighten him enough so he LEAVES!!Bet he will have to change his underwear if your shot didn't hit them. For me my gun skills would be better than knife skills-it takes a SKILLED person to use a knife properly in these cases. If you do want to use a knife in this case-get the proper training to use it just like with a gun.Now if the perp has a gun you are at a disadvantage. The old story---don't bring a knife to what could be a gun fight!
