Hello all!

I've been checking out the threads on here for about a few months now, and just thought I'd dive-in and go legit!

A little history on me: I've always been interested in all things mechanical, and really interested in anything that's old, as well. I just love the workmanship that used to go into the items we use on a daily basis, and that's what led me to old vacuums, specifically Kirbys. As a kid, I remember being scared as heck of my grandma's old Kirby (which I believe was a Classic Omega). Another reason was that I found the modern, mass-market vacuums to be very lacking, and started doing some research on why that is. So basically, that's what led me to buying my first Kirby (a lightly-used Avalir, with all of the attachments). I was amazed at the job it did on the carpets, compared to the Shark we had been using. See, we have two young boys, so we use a vacuum on a daily basis.

So, long story short, the Avalir led to a Classic III (love the red trim!) that I bought from the original owner, and now to my current project, a Legend II. Now this one hasn't lived as charmed of a life as my Classic III did. It almost looks like one of the previous owners vacuumed a kitchen with it, judging by the layers of "Kirby cake" that have built-up inside. I've just about cleaned all of that off, and I'm ready to give it a new lease on life.

I do have a question in regards to the bags for the Legend II: Will I need to convert the bag connector to the "F"-type to use the current Micron Magic bags, or is the existing round connector compatible with those? I know the current bags will work all the way back to the Gen 3, but I can't determine they'll work for the Legend. I'm about to order a bunch of parts from Kirby Needs on eBay, so I just need to know if I need to add the F connector to the order.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site! Yes, the current Micron Magic bags will fit the old connector. I have a Legend II as well. You will find it is a great machine.

Bryan,

I too got scared of my Mom's 1978 Kirby Classic III 2CB when I was younger, and despite my affinity for the brand, for the next 20 years afterward my ears just couldn't handle the sound of a Kirby such as hers! I wouldn't expose myself to the sound of these vacs in person again until 2010.

I would think the present "F" disposables should work on your Style 3 top adapter. The Style 3 top adapter was used from the Heritage II all the way up to the G5!

That's a good question, to which I do not have the definitive answer. But since you have an Avalir, you might be able ot make a few observations and possibly do a few experiments to figure out compatibility for yourself.

Take the bags out of both machines and compare the bag connectors and openings. Do they look more or less the same? If so, then chances are they're cross-compatible. To further test your hypothesis, try to put the Avalir bag into your Legend II. If it fits, you're in business. I think the bag design for the G-series machines originated on the Heritage II, which I believe is basically the same as a Legend II, so you're probably okay there. The one that's different is my Heritage 1HD, which has an oval opening. I actually bought the piece to convert it to use the later type bags once I ran out of the ones I had for it, but then my girlfriend, with whom I have an on again/off again relationship, 'borrowed' it in 2013 and promptly pitched her Oreck into the dumpster. Somehow, I don't think I'll have to worry about converting that machine.

Thanks for the quick response, guys! My kids don't care too much for the Kirby noise, either. But, I have to remind them that its their messes I'm cleaning up, so they'll have to get used to it!

The sentrias have 2 different style fill tubes. First model was smaller of 2 I think 2.5 in diameter and the 2nd assembly in later sentria is 2.75. The emptors are different on both sentrias. What you need to know is first style on sentrias top will fit your other system. If you just get first generation head you can use better bags. I know sentria 1st and 2nd generation bags are close. If I remember right the 2nd had 2 notches in which you line up and twist. But the bag with circular opening will fit both just force over the tabs. I just received my second generation fill tube and top yesterday.

Edit 1st generation is same as legend 2 2.5 in.
2nd gen is f type in pics shown.

The legend 2 mini emptor bag assembly takes micron magic bags. If you get sentria topper you can use hepa bags. Hepa has better circulation. The tubing on legend 2 is 2.5 in. I know they have 2 different adapters. I would ask Kent or Kirbyneeds.com owner/seller and he can tell you.
I'd try to get hepa top for legend 2 setup if possible so you can use same bag. But ask Kent he answers quickly.
Good luck
Les

First series of sentria has one piece emptor second series has 2 piece emptor. The top of the fill tube is same for both tubes. The fill tubes are different.
The white bag I showed was a dvc bag not kirby. The kirby looks the same but has green or black writing saying genuine kirby product. Dvc bag has triple layers kirby has 6. Buy kirby bags. I was given 30 bags for free only reason I have them.
