Thanks Hank, I'll pass that on as I don't think she had broken the machine down yet. I was surprised to see a Sanitaire vacuum made in West Germany...very nice design. |

After Sweden’s Electrolux bought Eureka in 1974, they started to sell 120-volt versions of some of their European canister vacs in North America. Some were rebranded as Eureka, others were rebranded as Sanitaire. Along with Eureka, Electrolux owned both AEG’s vacuum division and the Progress vacuum company - both based in Germany. They also owned the Volta vacuum company - also in Sweden.
So it appears that North Americans were offered Eurekas made by Progress and Volta, and Sanitaires made by AEG. I would bet that you could find your vintage Sanitaire branded as AEG somewhere on the web. |

It actually looks more like a vintage Volta. Here is a youtube clip from Europe showing a similar Volta canister with the foot pedals and cord port in the exact same position:

Rick, if the vacuum has a new bag & is running smoothly, my guess would be is that there is a foam or rubber seal that is missing or has disintegrated inside the motor compartment. That would explain why the motor sounds ok but yet no suction. It wouldn't be a faulty motor or motor fan, you would be able to tell that right away when you turn it on.
The other fault could be is if a incorrect bag was used, & it doesn't make a proper seal in the bag chamber. Rob |

That volta in the youtube video sounded really nice, very nice sounding motor. Sounds like it had a squeak somewhere, maybe something needed to be oiled, still, a very nice sounding machine. Mike |
