I would like to know what everybody’s favorite Kirby or the one you think performs the best is.
Mine is the tradition. I love the way the blue shines with the shiny cast aluminum. I also love the way it performs. Below is my Kirby tradition. And my Sentria. I like my Sentria but I think the color is ugly.

Kirby Classic III

This was my first Kirby a year ago. I put on a new style brush roll, and disposable bag conversion. It's a beast. Removing hair from three cats and a German Shepherd in plush carpeting is no problem. It's a beautiful red, and I play with the whole line of accessories for it. I have a couple G's which are easier to move across the carpet. I have a very clean Tradition which sits in a corner. A nice Kirby 562 adorns my office.

The Classic III is the functional equivalent of a 60's muscle car brute force. Don't need high tech. Don't need more chrome. Always works the way I want it to.

Mine is the Dual Sanitronic 50.
It was the classiest I think, with the elegant tan and copper trim, lighted oval Kirby logo on the headlight, and the awesome starburst badge on the belt lifter.

Second up is the Tradition, as I love royal blue! The Omega is third as I love the 'dark chocolate' rosewood colors.

Many other line up behind them, too. Nothing is more attractive than polished gleaming metal!

Has to be my D50! The only other Kirby I own is a classic 1. The D50 feels like it has stronger airflow than the classic, but it could be my imagination, or maybe the D50 is in better shape.

Reece,

Your Tradition appears to be a very early one as due to the attachment box, I'd guess the motor unit has the locking headlight cap and the speed switch inside that, plus the old ten-blade metal fan!

ben- yes, my tradition has the original metal fan and locking head with the speed switch. The whole thing is original. The people I bought it from never really used it cause it was too heavy. It has the shampoo system that was never taken out of the box! I got it on CL for 40 bucks. Most of the attachments were also never used. Below are pictures of the original fan other features.

Reece,

That is very cool indeed! Going by the serial number on the fan case, it even appears to be one of the first Traditions out the door (summer 1979)!

Mine is 505 I have. Then d80 the polished aluminum wider handle and sound of 2 speed motor. D50 and d80 have probably most suction of any kirbys. The reason being only 13 inch nozzle compared to 16 inch brush roll. The heritage 84 with 13inch head might be as powerful. The nozzle height can suck to floor better power.
That tradition is sweet I've never knew about locking head I knew metal fan I had one. But it's very classic vacuum.

That is beautiful. I didn't know they existed until you posted a while back. Those are super rare. I found a few websites have 13 Inch heritage 4 brush roll. They fit 515 to d80 and your super rare heritage.
I like the 13 inch heritage more and more thanks for the sweet pics.

You have the mini emptor with bottom open assembly. Does the heritage have bag setup from h2l2. How does it vacuum compared to wider nozzle.

Les,

That 500505 brush roll... don't forget it will also fit models 513 and 514.

My Heritage II has the shake out bag on it. When I first got it, it had a Heritage I Emtor that was modified so that it could fit snugly even against the original rear axle... the aluminum Emtor you see is from a Classic 1CR.

I'd heard lots of Heritage/Legend owners say the 13" nozzle draws suction more evenly than the standard 16" nozzle.

I can't say that I have that much experience with different Kirby models. I've only had my hands on four--a Heritage I, a G5 and two G6's. The latter three are essentially the same machine. All that said, I like my G machines a bit better than the Heritage, which is no longer in my possession, mainly because of the Tech Drive. Of the three G's I own, there isn't one that I like appreciably better than the others, although my G5 has a special place in my heart since I've done more work on it than the others and have thus arguably put more of myself into it.

The Kirby Classic was my first Kirby. It caught my eye in a Kirby window, in Hamilton

Ohio, when they first came out. It is one of my favorites, but I also like the Sentria II, which

I use regularly today. In fact I have the complete set. I just used the carpet fluffer the other

day to brush the nap of my carpet up. I have in my collection a factory rebuilt 505, D80, Gsix,

Ultimate G, and the Sentria II. Oops, forgot my Kirby G5 rebuilt by Kirby as well.

Ultimate G Diamond Edition

broomvac's profile picture
I have owned:
Sanitronic VII
Classic
Classic Omega
Heritage
Heritage II/Legend (still own)
Legend II
Generation 3
2x G5 (still own one)
GSix 2000
GSix 2001 (still own)
Ultimate G Diamond Edition (still own)
...so I've had a semi-decent spread of Kirbys. All of them are second-hand.

Of all of them, my favorite has been the Ultimate G Diamond Edition. My preference lies with the G-series machines, and I think the DE looks the best.

Did the later traditions use a plastic tool caddy or did they still use the cardboard dollhouse looking box?

I have lots of Kirbys, but the only one I'm really excited about is the model C with hedlite. Here's mine, being modeled by Adam Mercer (Adambomb). Adam is a huge Kirby fan and always wants to run my vintage Kirbys when he visits the Vacuum Cleaner Museum.

My top favorite is the 560, which was manufactured the year I was born. The tweed bag design is classic 50s style. The other is Dual Sanitronic 80. Nothing says, "Hello 1967!" like the avocado green color scheme.

But then there are these...

Hard to pick a favorite! I am so lucky to have become friends with a local vac shop for over 20 yrs. I think. I just carry the vacuum in whatever shape it might be, and they come back like these...kudos to Heather, Henry, and Jason! They do it all from the inside out...most of all, very reasonably.

My favorite?

I don't really have a favorite but i have a top 10 (In somewhat no particular order):

1. Dual Sanitronic 80 (because it's the basis for Kirby from brave little toaster)
2. 1C (the headlight hood is just really cool)
3 Tradition (My uncle has one, and it was lent to my parents when i was still a baby)
4. Late model Sentria (from 2011 or 2012 with new style emtor and style f bags; I own one myself!)
5. Avalir with red trim (bag clamp, bag top, and i think the carry handle too)
6 Kirby Legend II (I just love the red)
7. GSix (Not sure which one, I don't know the difference between the original and the 2000 and 2001 limited editions, but I love the black)
8. Classic III (There's something about a Kirby and the color red that makes them look nice)
9. Heritage legend
10. Comvac 1600 (the Belt cover is VERY cool)

Fun fact: the guy who voiced Kirby in The Brave Little Toaster is the late Thurl Ravenscroft. He did plenty of work for Disney, some from when Walt was still alive. He was also the voice of Tony the Tiger, the singer for "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch", and part of the Mellomen who as I read, at least once sang backup for Elvis Presley and also recorded for Walt Disney for his Enchanted Tiki room. (I am a hardcore Disney Fanatic, that's how I know this)

Hi human-
(I’m not sure if I’m replying to your message the correct way. I tried to find where I could reply to your question and couldnt find it. I’m on my mobile right now if that makes any difference.
No, this isn’t my only machine. I’m a bit of a sucker for a Sanitaire and own several of those.
I do plan on sticking around!

Gsix...

Oldskoolguy wrote: 7. GSix (Not sure which one, I don't know the difference between the original and the 2000 and 2001 limited editions, but I love the black)

I reply: There is absolutely no difference between the various 'editions' of the Gsix except the decals on the handles. It was all just marketing. I have one that's the original 'Gsix Performance' edition and another that's a '2001 Limited Edition' and they're identical to one another and to my G5; in fact, Kirby's conservative design approach has allowed me to give my G5 most of the technical benefits of the next few models, such as they are, by retrofitting it with an Ultimate G bag assembly and the newer style brush roll.

Really, except for color schemes, the Kirby remained fundamentally unchanged from the G5 through the original Ultimate G (aka G7). The Gsix introduced the lower profile rounded emptor and micron filter bags, the latter of which wasn't really a change to the machine itself and can easily be added to any G-series machine. The original Ultimate G saw a redesigned outer bag with a curved zipper and the later Ultimate G Diamond Edition introduced the short-lived two-speed switch. The updated brush roll came, I believe, with the Sentria.

I love the look of the classic machines as well. The G5 is my first Kirby but I am hoping it wont be my last. It is a powerful machine and is made so well!
Over 20 years old and still performs flawlessly. I do take care of it though.
I also have the shampoo system which I will be needing to use before long. Do any of you use the shampoo system on yours? Do you prefer hot water extraction?

I’m cheating on my favorite Classic III

Picked up a very clean Sentria 1 with shampoo kit for $55. More than I wanted to spend. It just looked so nice. Fired it up and was instantly pleased. I have three very used Gs. All three transmissions need attention. The Sentria is smooth and powerful. Almost effortless moving forward and back. I vacuumed with the Classic III yesterday. New style brush roll, new Kirby disposable bag. Today I hit the same carpet with the Sentria. I could hear sand being sucked up. Hmmm. Sentria brush roll really fluffed the plush carpet. I don’t know how I’ll break the news to the Classic.

Since getting a beautiful, shiny Sentria last week, I'm considering amending my earlier post. I still love my G5 and all, but I find the aesthetics of the Sentria very appealing. I really like the gray and orange color scheme and the shape of the handle. I don't know why, but the Tech Drive seems to work better than on any other Kirby I own. The brightness of the LED headlight is a nice bonus as well. I may have to consider retrofitting my others with LED bulbs when they need replacing.

I now have 6 Kirby's and ALL from this year!wow . my favorite one I own is tough to pick....a tie I suppose, with my Heritage II and Legend models....just feel the best, but I like the look of my Classic III the most....that red is so striking.
own: -Classic cr-1, Classic III, Heritage I, Herritage II, Legend, and Sentria.

I"d like the most, to own a TRadition due to the blue and larger power nozzle compared to later models. I don't like the color scheme at all with my Sentria, would prefer the Avalir. I Like all the old 500 series models and Sanitronics....so I hope to get one as well. If I found a uber cheap G5 I'd get it as I love the purple color scheme the most on G models.
