So I stopped at Kmart one last time before they close tomorrow. There were a few vacuum filters and bags but nothing I need/have. All of the vacuums were sold except for a red BOL Cleva made Kenmore canister display that was missing the Powermate. It was marked down to $39.99. All of the C and Q bags had long since sold.

Yes, and there is a Sears in the same mall as this Kmart! If/when Sears closes that will leave two big vacancies. JCPenney was closed for about 3 months after the hurricane because they had roof leaks and the carpet had to be changed out. They reopened but the store doesn't feel as fully stocked as it used to.
I will definitely miss Sears, I miss the better days when they had the catalog and when they sold all kinds of things, including paint, etc. Now they seem the be just "there", it's gotten to the point where no one considers them seriously anymore, from what I'm reading online. Avoid buying appliances at Sears they say because they will probably close. |

Would be nice if some big box retailer like Best Buy, or Home Depot or Lowes bought the Kenmore appliance line from Sears before Sears goes bankrupt. Kenmore has always been a dependable name for everything from vacuums to dishwashers and microwaves. Would be nice if someone could rescue Kenmore from Sears.

Brian, from what I have heard & understand, apparently one of the reasons Cleva purchased the vacuum division from Panasonic was they wanted to expand the brand worldwide. And if memory serves correct, I have also heard it floating around that Amazon wanted Kenmore vacuums as their own in-house brand. If those rumors are true, that at least solves how to keep the Kenmore name in vacuums around for a while.
Now, the rest of the appliances remain to be seen. I have to wonder if Whirlpool or GE would buy just the Kenmore name to use on their own appliances? After all, as you say, they do have a good reputation. Rob |

I guess I’m kind of hoping that the whole division (product development, sourcing and purchasing) would be adopted by another “brick and morter” retailer so we can actually walk into the store and see Kenmore products. I wonder if JCPenney or Macy’s or Lord and Taylor / The Bay could buy the Kenmore division of Sears and just truck everything over to the “other end of the mall” so to speak.
