I found a Kirby Heritage II Legend at goodwill a few months ago and have slowly been working on restoring it. I finally got around to doing some cleaning on the motor. I still need to take it out to the garage and blow all the dirt out of it. I didn't want to take the motor apart on this one, the carbons were still good as well. All I did was clean up the commutator using a commutator cleaning stick by hand.

I'll post more once I have the machine finished.

Andrew

That sure is a clean machine - great find!
I would have replaced the bearings while I was in there just because grease dries out after 30 years or so. However if the motor spins smoothly and quietly, then you have time yet.
How did the rest of the vac look?
