*Two* 90 degree turns in the air path, with a single-stage motor, followed by the cyclone setup? Gah. I bet the airflow at the rug sucks. Or rather, doesn't suck nearly enough.

Interesting!

It has an advantek style motor in it but per it's specs it has a mere 250 airwatts? Eh it is a Dyson I suppose....

After watching that video, who in his right mind would actually go out and spend 600 bucks on this or any other POS Dyson?

Weird suction fan?

Entertaining and funny video for sure. I have watched this guy taking apart other electrical appliances to.
I wouldn't recommend to watch this video if you like Dyson vacuums. Too heartbreaking to watch.
Something interesting what I noticed. I have never seen suction fan like this Dyson has. It looks like some kind of water turbine LOL.

Never seen such a fan on a clean air motor either, until now.The fellow that compared the Dyson to the Meile wouldn't like the video shown on this thread!

Not everything is as meets the eye with engineering. Quick conclusions drawn about components simply based on observing their material or "wow, this is bendy" are often incorrect. He may think that the vacuum is cheap/weak, but he has no analysis (FEA, for example) to back it up.

Mike--I was pleasantly surprised by that impeller design, too! It appears to be a pretty advanced style designed for high-speed efficiency, very similar to that used in the Dyson digital motor or a turbocharger. Google pictures of an automotive turbocharger/turbocharger compressor wheel and you will find great similarities.

Broomvac the Dyson is cheap and weak. For the price Dyson charge for these cleaners you would expect much better quality. My guess is they manufacture these for about $20! I'll give Mr Dyson one thing he is a fantastic marketeer!

"Weird suction fan?"

Isn't that small black fan just an 'inducer' fan, to get the airflow to flow with a minimum of turbulence before the airflow encounters the conventional aluminium fan?

I'm sure Panasonic had something similar on their bagless upright motors of 2011.

And indeed, that is a Panasonic motor in the Dyson!

"Panasonic motor in the Dyson!"

The DC15 Ball upright had a Panasonic suction motor too, but without (I think) the pre-inducer fan.

Dyson kept on - and keeps banging on - about their Digital Motor. But it never ever seemed to get installed in a proper upright machine. Instead they use conventional motors. Maybe it's a case of 'why re-invent, when we can use conventional stuff off the shelf'?
