I've got a question about the Miele S7210 Twist upright vacuum cleaner.  Recently, I purchased one from a seller on eBay.  Only after I purchased it did I realize that this model isn't equipped with the LED headlight -- which is something that I really wanted to have in a Miele upright if I were ever to buy one.

Anyway, a few days ago I came across a genuine Miele LED light assembly and a lens cover for the S7 series uprights, also on eBay.  Needless to say, I bought them!

So my question is this: how difficult is it to add the light assembly to the machine?  I'm sure the machine's already out of warranty, so modifying it like this isn't a major concern to me -- but I'm curious to know if it's something that I'd be able to do myself or if I'll need the services of someone handier than I!

Any information or instructions that y'all might have would really help me.  Thanks, friends!

Bill W.

It’s really hard

I would NOT try to fit a headlight. I would’ve probably asked this before buying because I considered doing this to save money when I was looking to purchase one. I traded a vacuum in and got a S7 salsa for cheaper than a twist. I’ve had my S7 for years and considered servicing it at home instead of taking it to the dealer. I decided not to and I’m glad because you can mess the brush roll up because the belt is timed and you’ll have to buy a timing kit from Miele. Watch the video in the link, someone tried to take the vacuum apart and broke it. Don’t take it apart. You’ll mess it up without training.

Bill W....

It is actually NOT hard. I am far from a Miele service person, but I have some basic logic and sense about how parts go together. You will be perfectly fine. Here is a picture of mine. It came out just fine. I had zero issues putting mine together from a junk machine I found for sale on Facebook.
If you need some help; reach out. That's why we're here :)

Well you’re talented. I just bought a salsa instead and ignored the twist. I’ve used a twist and loved it but gotta have a headlight. I only work on my S5. Speaking of which I have a brand new cord reel for the S500 series if anybody wants it. Make an offer, I meant to get an S5000 cord. I’ve had it for awhile and can’t return it (plus the place I got it from is a pain). I didn’t realize it didn’t work until I went to fit it this weekend and I realized the connections were different and that it wasn’t going to work. I checked the label and instantly felt like an idiot, I missed a zero 🤭😂. It’s genuine btw.

Thanks for the advice, everyone!

And Kyle, that's an excellent job you've done on your machine.  Unfortunately, I don't feel that I'm quite as handy as all that, so I've decided to hand the job over to a good friend of mine who happens to own a vac shop AND who is an authorized Miele dealer.

I already have the parts ordered: the LED assembly arrived a few days ago and the lens cover is on its way.  As soon as it arrives I'm going to let my friend have a go at it.  Even though I didn't spend a lot of money for the machine or for the parts, I feel that given my abilities this is the best way to go!

I will say this for myself, however: when I first got the machine I thought that the tool suction was terrible.  After watching a YouTube video about clearing out clogs on these machines, I went through and checked the hose and found a huge clog in it!  I'll bet this is why the seller I got the cleaner from let it go so cheaply!  Anyway, I removed the clog: the tool suction is phenomenal!

And here's an update ...

The machine came back from my friend's shop today, after having it's "illuminating experience"!  My friend told me that it was a good thing that I brought it to him, because not only did I get the LED's fitted as if they were done in Bielefeld BUT the machine was also very, very clogged in the middle section near the swivel neck!  Even if I'd been able to fit the light assembly myself, I would have really not known (apart from, let's say, poor performance and a host of other issues) that the machine was as clogged as it was!  So, my beloved S7 is now running at its peak AND it's got everything I wanted on it!

Once again, thanks to EVERYONE who responded to me -- your comments and input were most helpful!

(PS - I'll be posting a video of this machine soon ... I'm on vacation next week and will be doing at least one or two vacuum vids while I'm off!)

Just in case anyone's interested ...

In my previous post I mentioned that I was planning to make a video of the machine.  Here is a link to that video, in case any of you might be interested in taking a look.  I've also added a few pictures of the machine.  Enjoy!
