Just recently acquired this lovely machine today. A GE model AVF-807. There isn't much, if any information that I could find online aside from the manual, one VL post and an article saying these had unreliable electric motors. The bag and belt cover also don't appear to be original to the machine. The belt cover I believe is off an earlier model GE.

After some hours of cleaning, inspecting and servicing, all appears to run flawlessly. Including the automatic carpet height adjuster! Overall very pleased with how this one turned out, and will be looked after along my other machines within my collection.

The only issue with it at the moment is that the belt slips a little bit once it hits carpet. (Or in this case a small throw rug.) I tried a Kirby flat belt, but it turned out to be too loose. So do any of you have any suggestions for a suitable belt replacement?

(Photos most likely bit crushed due to new camera and huge file sizes)

Instruction manual here: www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-...

Sadly no information on the belt, other than "contact the general electric retailer".

I already downloaded the manual during my research session of this model. Though the link will be helpful to those who have the same machine! :)

If I don't get any tips from the forum I'll head out the the vacuum shop in town and see what flat belts will fit.

The belt that's on there looks a bit narrow,
like its from a hand vac (Royal? Dirt Devil?)

Take it to Walmart or Target and size it
with their selection if you just want any-
thing that fits.

I have a Premier Model 21 and use Royal belts prior to the knurled  belts, for their earlier models. They work fine for me. A Kirby non knurled belt for the Classic back to the 500's should work also. Kirby has them for sell on

their website.

This was made in 1952

It matched the first swivel top, I have one but the automatic adjustor needs work, the belt is smaller than a Kirby belt, a small power nozzle belt works.

I have a deep love for this era of GE vacuums! I love this style of their uprights.

I also have the one before this

That matches the square tank, sort of a burgundy brown color with a chrome hood, really pulls!

Hey guys, I went to the vacuum store in my area and found a replacement.
A Hoover 38528-036 flat belt!

Has the right about of tension and doesn't slip an inch when I placed my hand against the spinning brushroll.
Hope this info was helpful!
