Thanks for the picture of The Hoover Citation! I remember well when our best department store put the on "close-out" and reduced the price from $116.00 to $89.95. I had forgotten all the wonderful detail on the trim. So many changes to come in the quality details of the attachments and cleaner. Notice the Hoover emblem even on the handle bail and pictures on the attachment caddy. It was at this time that the department store no longer had the Hoover displayed on raised platforms that were all painted and carpeted to match the cleaners. When the new Convertibles were introduced they were sitting all togeather with the Eureka's. The dusting tools were no longer displayed, just boxes of attachments on the floor. Even as a child I knew SOMETHING was changing with the marketing of the Hoover cleaner. I was told many years later by our local hardware store owner that they had to reduce the price of the Citation in preparation for the new cheaper Hoover Convertibles. Who would buy the older model Citation for $116.00 plus tools when they were bringing out a new Hoover Convertible Special for $89.95. They sure were beautiful machines with such quality!

 Memories-This picture brought back many childhood memories of the "Hoover" man demonstrating how easy it was to connect the Dusting Tools and he then would show the customer how EASY is was to pull the Hoover backwards using the hose. Back in those days the same person worked in the vacuum department of the store for many years. Much of my old Hoover liturature has his name written on the back. I can just hear him saying "no need to buy two cleaners when you own a Hoover" because it converts with one easy push! He would then pull the cleaner off the demonstration carpet and onto the hard surface floor to show how easy and well balanced the Hoover was even with the tools attached. Those were fun days for a kid who liked vacuums.

Here is a photo of my Citation ensemble...not quite like the photo in the POD because mine has a later bag more akin to the Hoover Convertible model 65.

This shows the cleaning tools connected by the right angle tool connector that was supposed to allow the cleaner to follow you around the room. It was better than the straight side connector but not much. The cleaner goes in a circle when you pull it backward. However, of all of the "60" series Hoovers, this tool set was the best because it used the newer tools and the best hose Hoover put out, the "Ultraflex" hose. Why they quit using this hose on their uprights is a mystery. It is far superior to the later "Tufflex".

Thanks so much for posting your pictures. I have never seen one in person(except when I was young and they were demonstrating at the department store). Sure hope I get to see it at the convention. I can see in the picture the hose and converter were two separate pieces. What a beautiful hose and attachment storage case. I would be proud to own that Hoover even today 50 years later! I remember the salesman always did the demo with the Hoover Citation and customers would stop and watch the demonstration. Two of my relatives had the Convertables and did not like the converter with the metal plate on the bottom and shorter hose. It also seem like I remember the Citation being very quiet.
