Hello. I just snagged a Hoover UH72630 (WindTunnel 3 High Performance Pet Upright Vacuum). All is well and good, however I am missing one critical part....the Hoover logo latch to clip the canister shut. This has become a frustrating problem because the vacuum is too new (2016) for parts to be available and I would hate to spend $20 on a whole canister just to get the one latch and ditch the rest of the canister.

See image attached. Hoover parts is no help because they don't have it and they want $122.00 for just the lid, totally mental.

I know, right? I might just buy the $20 canister just to get the latch and attempt to resell the canister as salvage, or I could jury-rig up a buckle latch (like briefcases have).

The latch being missing causes the lid to pivot, which causes it to press backwards on the handle, and separate the inlet spout on the canister from the vacuum.

But yeah, I got this vacuum as a salvaged store return for $30. You can still get it at Home Depot for like $149. The only thing missing on it is the latch, everything else is brand new, there's not a single bit of hair on the brushroll, it's just horribly dirty from being left to rot in a warehouse uncovered and dust settled on it.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a latch, if I find one I'll let you know.

Hi huskyvacs, You might try finding a friendly dealer or repair shop guy.
Manufacturers treat them a whole lot better than the general public.
They could order the part for you as if they're needing it for a customer
repair job. Find out Hoover's wholesale charge to the shop, then throw in a
few more bux for his trouble. Worth a shot?

@ FantomTechGuy: Thanks!

@ FCS3: There is a vacuum repair shop here that deals with everything from the last 70 years, but I have not been to them in a long time (over a decade), I don't know how much they would charge, if they charge a bench fee, or if I can just walk in there, say I need this latch, and blablabla if they would even do that. The local stereo repair shop here charges $30 just to look at it, no matter if they can fix it or not, and then the repair charge on top of that.

Here's some photos of it....(also in the first photo you can see my Altima off to the side that is in need of a full strip and wash, and a few parts to make it in perfect condition)
