Dyson DC40 poor on higher pile rugs |

So I decided to try the Dyson DC40. It's completely refurbished and in excellent condition. First it seemed to pick up well and it was easy to use.
Pre motor filter is still clean after heavy testing. Now comes the worst part. Vacuuming the medium pile rugs. It doesn't seems to do good job at all. It leaves a lot behind. Cleaning head feels like it's just floating on top of the rug. Even my Shark Lift Away Pro NV500 does a better job. There is the pictures how much I put the sugar down and how much the Shark and Dyson left behind. I vacuumed the remains with the Kirby G6. I am totally disappointed. I just wonder how dirty the carpets are in peoples homes who uses the Dyson. | ||

True
So vacuum cleaner what cost over 300€ (350$) can't even do acceptable job. Luckily I "only" paid third what the new one costs.
I have even measured the suction and airflow. They are what they should be. It even has surprisingly good agitation on the low pile carpet, but on my medium pile carpet only the top comes clean. So basically it just makes the carpet look clean while there is a lot of grit and fine dust in the bottom of the carpet. I usually give a second chance to the vacuum brand, but now I really don't know if the other models are any better. Let's not make this post too negative. It has many clever features and on the low pile carpets it seems to do a good job. I just wanted to share my experience and mainly my big disappointment. | ||

Go behind one with A 50 year old Kirby or Hoover Convertible and you will really see what they miss...MUCH suction very poorly applied! | ||

I second going over the place the Dyson did with a Kirby,Hoover Convertible,or Royal metal and you will see what the Dyson left behind!!! | ||

Airflow problem
I agree that the erp model Dyson DC40 is better than the first generation DC40. However there is one problem with all Dysons and other bagless vacuum cleaners. Lack of airflow. Suction is useless without the good airflow.
Dyson pulls only 2/10 from the baird airflow meter. That is measured from the cleaner head port not from the hose. That is very low airflow. For example the bagged canister vac Nilfisk GM80 pulls 8.5/10 from the long hose end. Kirby pulls solid 10/10. I do like the Dyson other than the deep cleaning. It will stay in my collection for sure. Here is video showing how much the Dyson missed from the medium pile carpet. | ||
