Looks like Miele and Sebo have made a few changes with their canisters. Sebo has discontinued their D1, that's the full size straight suction model. The only full size model they are selling now is the D4. Also, Miele has a few new models, does anyone know if these are made in Germany or China? Apparently Miele is making some of their models in China with German parts, kind of silly, why not just make them all in Germany with the German parts instead of sending the German parts to China? Here are the new Miele models.
The Classic C1 limited edition.

Then there is the complete C1 cat and dog, there is also a C3 version of this machine.

Finally there is the complete C2 hard floor model.

Socialism is kind of silly thing . They don't allow Miele to expand their Factory fast enough. So they go over to China supervise closely and if the German government approves they can build their Factory Bigger, if not I will forever be in China.
I have no problem with chinese-made Miele's as long as the quality continues to stay at the level it's at.

Both sebo and Miele are cutting down their models to only popular machines.
Unfortunately in the United States very few people buy straight suction canisters.

Since I bought a German made Miele C3 this past year I'm hopeful I don't have to worry about any of this for another 20 years.

BTW vacuumdevil, why is it unfortunate more people in the US don't buy straight suction? I have the Miele C3 Alize with their TOL Airteq suction nozzle. I love straight suction for floors and while it does seem relatively effective on low pile rugs/carpets it takes a lot of manual effort to use on them (even using the 'Auto' motor setting). I then added a turbo brush that seems to be more effective at picking up threads/lint on first pass but still not smooth and easy on anything approaching medium pile... and then finally went full Monty and added the power hose/wand/head, which is easier to use on carpet, probably cleans better, but is more clumsy/heavy to carry around the house. I'm still debating whether I should get a parquet twister in lieu of the Airteq, with the primary incremental benefit of being able to go deeper under low clearance furniture on my wood floors. The downside is I think cleaning the bristles would be more challenging. With the Airteq I pop to carpet mode, make a couple swipes on a carpet and all collected dust/lint is removed.

The only Miele canisters made in China are revived versions of old S4 and S5 models. These are always marketed as discounted “limited edition” models. Even though they may label them as C1’s or C2’s, you can see by the photos that they are actually old S4’s and S5’s. Anything that looks like an old S2, S6 and S8 are made in Germany.
