I just snagged a complete tool kit on eBay for my Electrolux Genesis LXe, which I snagged at a thrift shop last weekend for about the price of a fast food meal. The tool kit was a little more expensive at $20 plus shipping, but for a Sidekick, wands, crevice tool, combo tool, electrified 'pigtail' hose and tool caddy, I'm into it for what the Sidekick alone usually goes for. To sweeten the deal, I also had about $6 in eBay Bucks to burn, so that knocked my net cost down a little further.

I don't really need two hoses for that machine, so I'm planning to keep the better of the two and put the other one back up on eBay. I should be able to get enough at least enough to cover the cost of the tool kit, if not the vacuum cleaner as well.

The big question is which hose to keep? The one that came with the Genesis is a little discolored at the machine end but seems to work perfectly. Another possibility would be to keep both of those hoses and sell the one that came with my Discovery II, to which I've upgraded with an external power cable and metal tipped handle.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for m my "local" Aerus dealer, which is 30 miles away, to call and let me know the handle/cord assembly has come in so I can take the machine over there (60-mile round trip) and get the recall repair.

Looks like last weekend's good score is in the process of turning into a better one!

So I was cleaning up come cat fur a little while ago, using my Discovery II*, Sidekick and the electrified hose that came with the Genesis LXe. The experience was so much better than using the retrofitted Discovery II hose that I've just about decided to keep that hose and the one just like it that's coming with the toolkit. Not only does it look better, it seems to handle better as well. Although I might not be able to get as much for the retrofitted hose as I would for one of the others, I feel like I'll be happier with it in the end.

*I've decided to sideline the Genesis until I can get the recall repair done. While the ponytail cord connector is completely intact and thus not immediately dangerous, I just find the design to be a little awkward.

The toolkit arrived today and everything's in good shape and works as expected. I have a feeling the kit had been sitting around for a good while as one of the brass electrical contacts on the hose was green with oxidation. A little sandpaper took care of that in short order. Another odd thing about the hose is the electrical plug is thicker than the one on the otherwise identical hose that came with the Genesis. The plug will fit the Genesis but won't fit the Sidekick electrical adapter I put on the Discovery II. Otherwise, the hose works just fine, no leaks and solid electrical connection.

The other thing that leads me to believe this kit sat for a long time is the Sidekick. When I first powered it up, it had a screechy dry bearing noise that went away after about 30 seconds. Next time I get to the store, I'll pick up some 3-in-1 oil and give it a good cleaning and lubrication. For what I spent on it, I think I did okay. Now I just need to put one of the hoses up on eBay to help cover the cost of the toolkit. I had originally thought to sell the upgraded Discovery II hose but since the one that came with the toolkit only fits one of the two machines, I may have to rethink things. And I could always just keep all three and add to my ridiculously large collection of hoses.
