I have a Lux 2100 in the vac shop for repair. The vac will turn on, and as soon as i put my hand over the suction inlet, the vac shuts itself off. It has 4 lights on top of the middle of the machine. One of those lights come on and the vac shuts off???? The light looks like a retangle filled with xmarks. Is there anyone that can tell me how to fix this??

I'd imagine that is the bag full indicator. It thinks the bag is full and shuts the cleaner off. It sounds oversensitive to me. I'm not sure exactly how to fix this though.

turn the knob on top to a higher number, that would be the bag full indicator light that is coming on.

Sounds like the bag full indicator is a little on the cranky or defective side. 1. check the hole in the lining of the front door where the hose goes in and the hole in the bottom of the bag chamber. Sometimes these can get a little clogged and cause problems. 2. A vacuum line could've come off the control valve. 3. The control valve could be defective. Sometimes the plastic or rubber can crack causing an air leak. A cheap fix is to just disconnect the vacuum line running to the switch. (vac will run, but the full bag indicator no longer functions) The valve itself cost around $39.95 Canadian from Lux. I do believe this part is only available from Lux, no generic part availability.

Saw 2100 w PN go for cheap on ebay

Heck fir the price of parts these days

Did you check the exhaust filter?
it could be very dirty impeding air flow

This is the box under the box with the ? The box on mine is sort of filled with dots.
I have the manual & it is as you all know the bag full light.
It also says if it comes on to reset the on off switch but no troubleshooting the unit.

Good to know
I took the plug out of mine for fear of wearing out the green light. Had it plugged in for a few weeks

Darn price of parts...

Brad,

I have a 2100 also and though I've never had that problem with mine, I do suspect that what yours is doing could also possibly be symtomatic of a bad bearing that is causing the motor to run hot at which point the machine shuts itself off to prevent motor damage. It may just be coincidental with your hand test. But then again, like I've said, it is a possibilty. It also mmay very well be a leak in the diaphragm inside the cover. I once had a model G that I could not figure out until I looked really closely and saw a slit. And I also recall a minute crack in the casing in which it is housed. Look closely at the entire mechanism.
