Hello
I am fixing a Eureka for somebody and i can't seem to find the issue.
It is an Altima that has very little suction and is sounding clogged, but i checked the hoses, washed the filters, and checked the motor and all seemed fine. Do any of you guys know what is up with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

~K

You own a piece of dung heap. Boycott all modern department store vacs!

Just tell them to toss it. Any Eureka made after 1999 should be tossed it if requires more than a belt or an unclogging. Tell them to get a better machine.

I might be able to help, do you know what model it is? Or might you be able to post a picture?

You said you checked the hoses but did you check the lower intake hose that runs through the nozzle housing? Is everything sealing correctly?

The 4870 was their only good department store machine, with the old Bravos and Elite-based Boss machines. Their bagged canisters were good.

It is a model 2996bvz.

I unclogged the bottom hose but that was not the problem. It does have a crack in the plastic filter cover near the switch but it hardly loses any air.

Thanks!

Toss it to the curb

Any eureka made after 2002 is a POS so it really is not worth it

I rescued one from an older lady, cleaned and gave it to a friend. Mistake! I never hear the end of what a POS it is. And no not giving him another

Just Wow. Amazing how people are these days!

So much for your friend valuing the friendship you have with him & being thankful eh? I don't blame you for how you feel about this one bit, I would likely feel the same way in your shoes. Obviously this guy should have just asked you to help him with the vacuum when he had problems rather than call it a POS & being a ingrate.

wow? why all the hate on this topic? bet none of you ever owned a newer Eureka and lived with it for months to see them beyond hearesay and vile judgements.

i bought this same model Altima at goodwill for $10 in 2014 and put about $40 in parts into it. It suffered from bad owners that battered it, and then from its weeks of neglect at the hands of being used as a Goodwill store employee vacuum full of lint and gross hair strands miles long and broken bits of plastic and even an earring was in there! They almost run it into the ground.

after my TLC and OCD on cleaning it to spotless condition, it's an amazing vacuum and it literally crawls along the carpet by itself in the upright position when left on and sitting idle, thats how good the suction is. many times i park it and leave it running to move a table or the couch out of the way, and as I am doing so, the silly thing starts driving away and creeping across the carpet while i'm not looking. first time i used it on my living room rug, I Had about 2" of fine dirt in the bottom of the cup and it always fluffed the carpet up very nicely and the carpet that is well-worn was so soft to walk on. Also the little duster brush accessory in the tank is a hoot to get it to spin around and "charge up" , and its a neat little cat toy when you wanna horse around on the job. i never had much luck with the power tool accessory brush.

as for the suction loss, check the seal gaskets on all 3 front access panels as well as the ends of the hoses and make sure everything is situated good. also check all the hoses, especially the one that goes to the brushroll on the lower right of the unit, for cracks, or holes. also pull off the square hose end on the back of the unit in between the cord reel and verify there is no obsctructions within the hose area or the machine itself within that cavity.

i remember one time i got wood spliters from a wicker basket jammed in my Eureka Optima and I had to take the entire back suction tunnel panel off and run a long dryer lint cleaning brush down it to knock the debris out.

Also make sure the right filter parts are in the vacuum as well. i couldn't get a new filter for mine right away, and my suction power had dropped from the dirty filter, so i just took it out entirely and the suction skyrocketed. I;d say just strip the entire unit, do a full clean on all the parts, and you should find the culprit, reassemble and profit.

Hey, I got your issue. I have had customers with the same issue.

1) Take the brushroll housing/cover off.
2) Take a shop vac and insert the hose through the main intake tubing and turn the vac on.
3) take out the bin and feel where the opening where debris would normally go through and check if there is suction. If there is, then throw away the vacuum. If there isn't there is a clog in the curved inlet and that's where it is.

I was going to also say, that stupid little screen thing up inside where the dirt bin goes usually gets clogged up, and its very well hidden up in there.

@ Ultralux88

I know that part well. I usually have to shake that off just doing half a rug since I have 3 dogs and a cat. It takes a lot of practice to slot that in there just by feel without having to turn the vacuum upside down to get it in the slot.

This vacuum isn't the cleanest to dump out, but I've never seen a vacuum that can take about 2" of silt out of my carpet to the point it looks like I just dumped some sand in the dust cup. It also likes to roll the fur into traffic cone shaped wads inside the cup, pretty funny. I do like the way it fluffs my rug pile as well, very soft to walk on.

Vacuum has some killer suction when they are taken care of. Just get into the habit of rinsing both the filters off after each use and you will be fine. And the headlight area will fill with dirt when the HEPA filter is clogged or missing. In my case, I took it out because I didn't have the money for a new one and it's still off a few months later and the headlight does have some dirt in it.
