I just visited both websites and noticed that the
Full sized canister line: Riccar/Simplicity Impeccable/Immaculate/Gusto/Moxie are now under "Limited availability" status and are only available in stores.

Does anybody know if these are being discontinued?

Steve, I do hate to have to say this, but I think this is fancy language for saying these full sized canisters are being discontinued :(. It makes sense to me, though....let's be realistic, the design is over 10 years old, they are heavy, & the full size canisters have some design issues that have since been changed & corrected on the Prima/Wonder line.

Now, let's hope that Tacony introduces a new design to replace them, so consumers wanting a full size canister with the additional features like hose handle controls still have Simplicity/Riccar as a choice in today's marketplace. I, for one, really like my Simplicity Gusto, & would be sad if it died tomorrow. And I also hope that the Tandem Air powerhead is introduced as a option, that would be really nice to see!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing at first Rob, I just didn't know if I was the only one..

True, they are an quite older design, it's about time for a change; If not a completely new machine, than at least an updated model with those newer features that the Prima/wonder all have, (especially the plastic collar auto close bags) wouldn't even mind seeing Tandem air nozzles to be equipped with them.

I just hope that the full sized line isn't going away all together, that would be a major disappointment to many I think. Despite the compact models being really popular, I still think there's a market for full sized canisters.

simplicity gusto

I also like my simplicity gusto, perhaps Tom can tell us if this line of canisters is being discontinued, the Prima and Wonder is also a great machine. If they are discontinued, hopefully the bags will be available for some time.

Mike, I don't think the bags will be discontinued. Those bags fit quite a number of Riccar & Simplicity models made since 2000, so they have reason to keep them around, or face the wrath of angry owners.

Speaking of the Gusto, though, look what I found tonight. Some clever vac shop owner has made the Gusto into a backpack vacuum! I hope he answers the comment & tells us whether this is made by Tacony, or it is custom made.

The Backpack conversion is interesting-but keep in mind the Gusto was not designed for backpack use.For home cleaning the traditional canister on wheels on the floor is easier. For commercial use the backpack is better.ProTeam makes a model that can be used either way-wear it as a backpack or use it with the vacuum being pulled along on the ground.

backpacks

I think proteam's canisters are just a backpack vacuum attached to a cart. I think they have the same motor as the backpack models. I actually like backpacks, I know they are mainly thought of as commercial cleaners but even for cleaning my apartment, I really enjoy using them, and, just like with a central vacuum, you can climb on a chair to clean above the floor much easier than with a regular canister. I would think cleaning stairs would also be much easier with a backpack, but have not tested that. Hmmmm, maybe I will test that on my apartment building's stairs.

Quite the Opposite for me-during house cleaning a backpack is just too cumbersome-It bumps into things,my canisters do not.For wide area commercial cleaning the backpack is fine.Would prefer having the canister on the ground rather than lugging it on my back. And for the centrals-you just have the hose to deal with.Folding the hose after use can be something-just coil it behind my MD Silentmaster machine.Just be careful with the backpack on stairs-the added weight up there can make you "tippy" Not fun falling down stairs!Remember those staircases in the apartment houses I used to live in!Sometimes a homeless person would be sleeping on the landing-and on another he pooped on it!!!!I often used them instead of the elevator for exercise!
