Hey Guys!

I was given a Eureka upright model 2314. It's the domed hood in chrome with blue "brocade-ish" bag with the vertical Eureka emblem.

I would consider it near mint except for the bag flange which connects to the bottom of the machine. There is a small hole and some spider cracks. It appears that the user had a clog from a past Christmas clean-up that formed in the tube of the paper bag which is why the bag would not inflate. Some dirt and debris obviously had backed up and I suppose this is how the hole and crack were made because the dirt and projectiles had nowhere to go.

I have heard of people repairing this type of plastic however, I don't know what the name of the compound is that is used for this purpose. The killer part of this is that the bag is in perfect condition and I want to keep it original as you all know that the bag makes a huge statement on vintage machines.

Can any experts tell me what the best way is to repair this bag coupler?

I feel your pain. Sometimes I come across a vacuum in excellent shape save one or two parts which are broken, almost totaling the whole machine due to the parts' high cost or worse, unavailability.

That said, I think you may be in luck. I'm not super familiar with the particular model of Eureka vacuum you have, but almost all Eurekas and Sanitaires are similar enough that you can interchange parts. Maybe the item in the link below could be a direct (or close enough) replacement of the part that is broken on your vacuum?

You may be able to detach the soft bag jacket from the entire cracked fill tube/coupler and install this piece instead. If you need the lower, black piece only, I'd bet you could perhaps detach the black portion of the replacement part from the translucent fill tube and use solely that half. Perhaps this lower section could even be swapped onto a bag with a cloth fill tube?

This part may exist in different colors too, but the black and translucent one is what I came across on my 30-second trek on Google. You could always spray paint it to match, too.

I've made an effective gasket on the cheap for my S661 which utilizes this kind of adapter out of wide foam insulation tape from Home Depot cut with the correct pattern using a utility knife, but OEM gaskets can be obtained, too.

Think it'll work?

Good luck!

Hey Louis long time no see. I hope all is well.
You might be able to replace the tube. I'm not entirely sure but is there like a wire or something hidden way down in there where the bag meets the tube? I seem to recall cutting that wire and finding another of those tubes though it was a long time ago and at this point not even sure if it was a Eureka. If the tube is one with a cloth bellow it may be a bit harder to find. If it's the all plastic then should be no problem.

Missed you in Tulsa, take care.
Phillip
