Your thoughts: Other than cutting to fit a hepa vacuum bag, are original Tristar bags essential or is it okay to use generic.

I also vaguely remember someone mentioning on my CXL not to use the bags that feature a picture of the newer Tristar vacuums on the packaging.

Your thoughts: Do the manufacturers of the vacuum cleaners insist you use their original bags or you void your warranty as a way of making money on their bags?

I have a TriStar for my Bench Vac. I use plain old DVC bags but I double them up since it will be involved with so much fine dust. I haven't had any issues yet.
Of course, I'm not a Bag Snob who won't use Generic. I just use what's available to me.

Vacuum bags vary widely in quality. Bojack bags 'can' be really good or really bad. Genuine bags are made to the manufacturer's specifications.

The genuine TriStar bags are single ply bags. That means, while they are strong, they CLOG with fine dust quickly. Reducing airflow dramatically.

There are non-genuine bags (Smart Choice micro lined TriStar bags) that have a micro-liner to hold back some of the fine dust. They work "ok" but not wonderful.

The problem with the Compact/TriStar design is the air over dirt principal. Debris like pebbles and such tear the micro liner because they are hitting that one side of the bag so HARD. Also, fine dust is forced through the paper at that point as well. The cloth bag is always dirty with fine dust at that point. You can see it when you change paper bags.

The best way to keep dust in the disposable bag and keep it OUT of the cloth bag, is to cut your own HEPA disposable bag.

If you use paper bags in your machine, change them OFTEN (like when 1/4 full).

Great advice,

I never thought about debris puncturing the disposable paper bag.

I will have to search my Hepa bag stash for a bag that will easily cut and fit the Tristar.

Thanks again.

cloth tristar bags

I'm surprised hepa cloth disposable bags were never developed for these vacuums since they are so popular. They are definitely nice machines, it sounds like the filtration is their weak point.

I noticed....

in one of the Hepa bags I cut open (don't remember which machine they were made for), that there was a plastic panel glued inside presumably where the high impact point for debris would be.

*what a horrid sentence*

tristar bags in my miracle mate

Got my miracle mate, what a beast, it's a bit on the heavy side but it's made very well and I can still carry it with one hand. Even though the miracle mate bags are closed, the tristar bags fit perfectly and I may just use those, since they are open bags, I would think this would allow more airflow.
