The older ones are better designed-even though the pumps and heaters can fail eventually. The newer ones are built very poorly and the repair record is horrible. Get a Steam Vac instead-easy to work on, reasonable price point, and they last much longer.

I would never go with a Bissell after purchasing the home model of the Rug Doctor, very impress so far.

The Big Green machine that they rent at Lowes is pretty good and seems durable enough. Their other models clean well but they break down pretty quickly.

Their compacts are okay, but their heater elements have high failure rates.

In my opinion: They work but there's better out there. I did like the Big Green machines that one vacuum store I worked for rented them out but they no longer have them because they quit being a Bissell dealer due to their terrible warranty service. The only Bissell carpet cleaners I have is a Little Green which is retired and the Proheat 2X that is no longer being used. The little Green was a good decent machine to use for spots. The 2X is also decent but I wish we could've gone with a Dirt Devil Platinum Force or a Royal Precision if I would've known about sooner in the first place.

We have a Bissell Proheat that a relative gave us. We've only used it once or twice, it seemed to do an okay job but wasn't particularly great at removing set in stains.

I liked the Bissell Big Green canister style cleaners that could also be a wet/dry vacuum.

Eureka Atlantis I heard was garbage. Only good thing was the fold-down handle. It's predecessor was an oddball.
