Last week, I posted a thread where I said that I was no longer satisfied with the large turbo nozzle. This thread, this time, is about my lost in satisfaction with the white floor tool. I said in a another thread that I like it but I no longer do.
This started when I was cleaning the kitchen floor with it. I saw that the brush couldn't remove the dried beans lying on the floor although it did pick up smaller particles. Then I made a test by putting more dry beans on the ground and trying to pick them up with the combo-tool (that came with the canister I have). With that nozzle, I could only push the beans away with pushing strokes but was able to pick them up when I lifted the nozzle, placed it above the beans and lowered the nozzle so it gets closer to the beans (I don't need to take the tool off and just suck these beans up with the wand's tip). Look at the undersides of both attachments and tell me: why can the combi-tool remove the beans and other particles of similar sizes but not the floor brush? When the white brush is attached and the canister's turned on, I only feel the suction when my fingers are at the round hole in the larger oval-shaped opening (looking at the 3rd picture). In conclusion, the hard floor tool is another waste of money. Which of the floor brushes of which brands can get rid of dried beans, peanuts and wasabi balls without having to remove the tool and just pick them up with the tip of the wand? | ||

I doubt changing the nozzle's angle will help pick up the dried beans but I'll make a test when I'll have the money for more bags.
As for the canister, it's a cheap Dirt Devil like the ones we could get at Walmart. Look at the pictures. | ||

The machine is likely the reason you're having problems, it may be better with a new bag and clean filters.
I agree with Mike that the combo floor tool is pretty much a joke and you'll get better results from a dedicated floor tool. Try finding a machine that has a bit more cleaning power too, I have a nozzle similar to that white one and I have no problems with it when I'm using my central vacuum. I've heard great things about that twister tool that was suggested above, but I'd suggest investing in a better machine before spending $69 on an attachment for your $70 vacuum. | ||

The bare floor tool that came with the all the "compact" canister vacuums made by interstate engineering Corporation are simply the best bare floor tools that were ever devised. The bristles are short and stiff allowing you to scrub up things stuck to the floor. The suction intake is only 1/2 inch above the level of the floor, meaning great velocity to the airflow. Get yourself one of those old compact or Tri-Star bare floor tools and you will never go back to anything else.

I use the TriStar -Compact bare floor tool with any of my canisters that it fits-including my central vacs!GREAT design!The best hard floor tool EVER! | ||

So finally, I bought more bags for our Dirt Devil and repeated the test with the white floor tool. The result was that it did pick up dried beans but I had to place the nozzle above these particles (like I did with the combi-tool) and push the brush towards the floor (with the beans under the brush where the're exposed to the oval opening). I also have the feeling that our cleaner would have a better chance of picking the beans up if the bag were almost empty and I believe that the other day I tried to suck up the beans, the vacuum's bag was either half-full or almost full and so would have less suction.
So, I'll stick to the white floor brush for the time being until I'll get a new cleaner (with a power head). | ||

I also Vote for the Compact floor brush, it really is great, sand and grit have no chance. | ||
