I went to one of the thrift stores again today. Saw a G5, Sentria, and a Split Second. I only had enough for the split second, so I got it. Anyways, I always look at the serial number on any Kirby I see. On the G5 where it normally says the serial number, has "child hosp" written on it. I am still puzzled by it. What is that for? Why is it like that? I appreciate and information on that. Thank you.

child hosp ?

Most companies want new products tested in nearby real life situations with more than normal use that can be checked later for more than usual wear or possible problems. When I was with a VCCC group at Kirby we were told that they then had vacs cleaning the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Mike Tysons mega mansion as test units. That may be the case here with the G 5 to test routine changes or new ideas for future models.

I would guess rugsucker is right. It may be a prototype that Kirby let a Children's Hospital use in order to simulate accelerated wear.

Very cool!

OMG please tell me you went back and bought that G5! I'm a huge sucker for prototypes and one-off.
