Checkrate/Likes Hi All! I dived into refurbishing my Hoover Senior 652C in Hop Green & Jonquil. Very early on, I realised it will need a full paint job, as the hood is corroding and bubbling up the paint... Has anyone ever painted a Senior before, and if so what paint colour did you use? I have not looked at getting a paint match done (because carrying an old Hoover into the DIY shop on a saturday afternoon is a perfectly normal thing to do), but what would be 'close enough'? It's not white is it? I've heard Ford Ivory White is quite close, but is it close enough? Also, removing the furniture guard, can one buy the stand off rivets anymore? Otherwise I've looked into small (tiny) coach bolts and nuts which will probably work very well, but won't look too original inside the machine. Lastly, should I use any special primer for the metal? I'm not going back to bare metal (hopefully), so it will be a mix of sound paint and bare metal. Or will any general primer do and I should stop worrying? Happy for US suggestions, I can google about and see what our UK equivilant is then!

Checkrate/Likes *paintin a senior* i have resprayed quite a few seniors its relatively simple .just take off every thing that will come off including the rubber bumper rub it down then undercoat it and then spray it lightly many light coats are better than one heavy one .I usually do about 4 coats then spray with clear cellulose to protect the new finish .You can buy a cheap pop rivet gun in Wilkinsons that comes with a few different sized rivets ideal for refitting the bumper You can get paint mixed at B& Q dont need to take the whole hoover just take part of the handle

Checkrate/Likes That's interesting, I didn't know B&Q mixed aerosols... Might give that a go, I have another 652 in much better condition, I'll polish it's handle and take that in! RE the bumper. Removing it is fine, it's re-fitting it, I don't think my rivet gun will get into the rear rivet locations, there's bits of casting in the way. What I have done is buy some tiny coach bolts, my plan is to drill the holes out slightly (M5 size), then the heads will look nice on show. Does mean having nuts inside though... Plus with modern rivets there will be a hole on the outside bit, rather than (are they called blind rivets) the original looking ones. No where close to doing that yet though, still got to drill the bearings out of the motor housings and wash it all! Then start on the paintwork

Checkrate/Likes *You could ....* try a special car body paint supplier. I did, I took the body of a 1334a along to them; the result: a very accurate colour and high quality fine.....although not cheap!!! it's a possibility. Regards, Walter.
