When I purchased my SEBO D4 Premium it was, I believe, $899 or maybe $799. Either way, that is significantly more than it costs in the UK, even when you take exchange rates into account. Now, since they have come out with the E series, the D series has jumped in price and the D4 Premium is around $1300. When I see how much they go for in the UK, I feel sick. How are such quality machines priced near the same level as poor quality vacuums like Hoover in the UK? And it seems canisters are quite a bit more expensive than uprights. I don't think we have more money to spend than Europeans. Some would say I am crazy to spend that much but what choice do I have if I want a quality vacuum? Riccar, Simplicity, Maytag are all expensive with Maytag being the cheapest when compared with its Riccar/Simplicity counterparts. And forget the door to door vacuums such as Rainbow and Kirby. The prices they quote vs. the prices they get those machines for is insane. I would never pay full price for a Kirby, primarily because second-hand Kirbys are abundant and can be stripped and rebuilt for pennies compared to the price of a new one. I purchased the Diamond Edition about seven years ago off Ebay from a vacuum rapair shop and have never had a problem with it. He cleaned it up, tuned it up, and sent it to me in nearly brand new condition. And I got it for $250. You can do that with Kirbys but it is rare to find good condition Mieles, Sebos and Tacony machines on eBay for reasonable prices. That is probably because people purchase the Kirby and don't like it so they sell it for pennies on the dollar given there is an abundance of those machines for sale.
